I already stated I'd not mind time for repairs/customization, but the fact is, this IS a F2P game, and when it launches we'll have exactly 1 thing to do..planetary conquest. No random matches, no arena, no testing fields. This isn't supposition, this is what we've been straight up TOLD by PGI, planetary conquest at launch, the others they'll work in later..maybe..they haven't even decided if they'll INCLUDE those yet ever.

So..you want to make it take time to repair a Mech..or travel..and you have literally NOTHING to fill up the player's time while they wait.

Yeah...no...that would be beyond a bad design decision, that's beyond the realm of pure stupidity...unless you WANT the game to be a complete and total failure, then it's brilliant.

Not so fast Kristov.

Let's keep an open mind eh!

I am Maxx..but they haven't confirmed anything and until it's confirmed..it's not there in my mind, just saves me a lot of worry and disappointment if something 'mentioned' is never done. Too many games over the years have mentioned things but never delivered them..I expect that now..getting jaded I guess.

The thing is you might need to have the "random match factor" in the "planetary conquest" mode as well, Kristov. That is unless PGI does manage to get the random mode out at launch as well. Let me explain why.

Part of the attraction of MWO will be to team up with buddies/compatriots etc. to form a unit. Or simply people who you think aren't full of *expletive moderated* and might be fun to play with. And play/drop as one. So that will require some option for "team drops". On the other side of the fence you have people discovering MWO or even BT/MW anew and wanting to get a match or 50 in before committing to a player unit (if ever). So you got here people wanting to do a "strategic drop/planetary conquest" and others who want to "only" play a match in their Mech.

Unless (we can talk them into it or) PGI offers two game modes at launch to accomodate both needs, it will have to be mixed up somewhat. Which I personally think is a rather unfavourable situation for both sides. I sincerely hope they can somehow make it possible to wriggle out two game modes, but, you're right there, we don't know yet. Apart from the whole workaround of having a "cheap loaner" on standby that could work for repair time issues, I think it would be beneficial to a lot of matters raised.

Generally I still think anything beyond minimal repair times (couple of minutes probably) will be detrimental to the game's market success. While I personally see no issue at all with really long wait times for customization. Scaled up by level of customization. Noone forces you at gunpoint to customize, so having to wait a week or more is fine with me. Additional way to make money here for PGI by allowing to pay for 25% reduction in time needed as well.

It's my belief to keep it instant repair time involving credits and having the weapons or items availible at the time.
Can you imaging having a clan battle or alliance battle going on and all the pilots are stuck out of game for a week?
Unless you have multiple mechs in you bay already loaded out or matching your layout youd be screwed. Your city assault mech gets a leg blown off and now all you have is your Lrm build support mech avail. Kinda defeats trying to enjoy the game eh?

Has anyone actually suggested 1:1 real time repairs?

I am blown away at how many things on this forum get taken entirely literally and to their extremes. This game will involve 1:1 time for some purpose.... How does that imply that everything in the game will be 1:1 time scale.... "I clicked to join the battle, unfortunately it will take my dropship 3 weeks to get there.... guess I'll go get a coke." My mech lost an arm, guess i cant play for a few months....

Now who is going to the extreme? 3 weeks to Drop? A few Months for an Arm replacement?

Any such crazy suggestions have been tempered by others with simple reason and logical thought. It is a game after all. Most wish to Fight, not Wait to Fight.

What is your take on the subject Rath?

Its true a lot of these suggestions make sense based on canon and some suggestions work but for different types of games. 1:1 Time scaling is used in a lot of games, however it is rarely used for all matters of a game. It just cannot work. !:1 scaling in MWO is important for the story line (seems thats why they chose the current start date). 1:1 time scaling does not work with just about anything else. They may delay repairs for mechs used in/for conquest matches like they are attempting in WoT. If it applies to all games then I can see quite a few issues. Just want to throw it out there that tme scaling has its limits, and in these types of games they have quite large limits.

*Edit*
Time scaling of matches and vehicles would remove a lot of players from active games, which a F2P cannot afford. For story purposes it is still pretty sexy though. (especially for the following years.

1:1 timeline refers to the series of event that add flavor to the BTU. We do no know if it applies to verything, such as travel/repairs/customization etc etc etc.

Clearly there will be some things that need 'pixi' dust do to how much time allot of people have to put into a game. otherwise your looking at months to go from one world to the next nad repairs are the least of your worries.

Again, can someone point me to a post suggesting or implying that 1:1 time for repairs and travel is a good idea?
