in the current faction play is there a list anywhere for when each faction will be in combat? is it random and just have to wait till its on the faction that i want?

A schedule or a log with upcoming conflicts and resolved conflicts would be nice, indeed.
You don't have to wait though, just pick a side of the conflict and go play. Check with the design discussion pinned above as to how much loyalty you will gain.

You don't need to wait untill "your" faction is in a conflict.
Just pledge loyality to "your" faction and then you can play in any conflict.
Faction Play is now only the same 200 people playing, you will play vs them now, and you will play vs them, when "your" faction is part of an conflict. What makes the difference? You will always play vs the same guys.
