Was going well getting the Gauss and Ballistic damage to earn the LB 20-X then realized upon completing that the reward was a LB 10-X for the IS reward and need the LB 20-X for the Ballistic 1 challenge. 1.2 million c-bills for a weapon that I will probably only use once for the event then not use it again until another event requires it down the road is just too much of a waste of money. So looks like the Ballistic 1 challenge will be left uncompleted. Used the Trial Orion IIC for the clan LB 20-X.

I do believe it's suppose to reward an LB20... but it's labeled and giving out LB10s for IS.

Yeah I am thinking that as well just not sure that they will do anything to remedy that before the end of the event allowing for the completion of the level if you don't purchase LB20. Probably be easier for them to change it to LB10 damage than to reward everyone who has completed Ballistics Level 2 a LB20 after the fact.

Still doesn't change that I won't bother spending the 1.2 million just to buy a weapon I would only use once or twice then strip it off until a future event requires it. I do use LB10s but none of the other LB sizes unless they come stock on the mech.

LB20s can be useful. I've seen them used to deadly effect. However, I wont fault you for not getting it for the event. It's not a weapon for everyone.

The strength of the LB20 is that it can shoot more than 1 without Ghost heat limits, unlike normal and UAC20s. So it's good when placed in pairs. Anything without (or even with) armor is going to have a rough time if that gets into range, as LBs do still have enhanced critical chances, as well as triple effective ranges as their max range.

As for the event, just do what you have/can do, and not worry about what you can't or don't want to do. The prizes are nice, but I don't see any of them that are "must have"s.

Yeah for me it is mostly due to the low ammo amount that I stay away from the AC 20s and Gauss so the LB20 falls into the same boat with needing more 1 slot than the other ACs keeping it from fitting the arms of my IS Ballistic mechs and having to carry so much more ammo than if using 10s.

Well, soon is time for the next event. We had Longship for Rasalhague FP, how about Operation Oktoberfest?

Steiners attack Falcons in attempt to stockpile poultry snacks, then Falcons retaliate on beer storage citadels.

First phase - Steiners attack Sulfurous Rift, Hellebore Springs, Caustic, Tourmaline, Rubellite. Because ...reasons.

Second phase - Falcons attack Emerald Taiga, Boreal Vault, Frozen City, Alpine, Polar. Because beer should be kept cold.

Intermediate phase - both sides attacks shipping lanes. Grim Portico and Vitric Forge random attackers, Grim Plexus, HPG manifold

Final phase - everyone's drunk and gets lost in a forest. Forest Colony, Emerald Taiga random attackers.

Aftermath phase - hangover, Terra Therma.

Afterwards, roll Halloween lootbag event.

Being creative with builds is part of the challenge, right?

I understand your point. However, in almost every instance, taking SRM6s without artemis isn't "being creative", it's "being a potato" Posted Image It's splashing damage instead of focusing it and making the kill.

Given there are lots of MWO players who don't really understand the ins and outs of weapons and builds, encouraging them to take a bad build doesn't help them get better at the game.

I find it funny you should mention this, as in another recent "help my build", someone had posted an SRM4 and SRM2 boating Archer build. Then a top level player posted an SRM6 and SRM2 boating Archer, and denounced the SRM4 as inferior and poorly built...

My opinion. SRM6s are normally better with Artemis than other SRM systems, so taking Artemis will likely be a choice based upon what other launchers are complimenting your SRM6s. SRM4s are iffy if they need Artemis, and SRM2s are wasted with Artemis.

In the above discussion with those Archer builds, I mentioned the spread of the 6s compared to the 4s, but the SRM6 build did have a higher alpha and did run slightly cooler, so it was more of a slight difference with advantages to each and disadvantage to each.

Your comment here just reminded me of it, that there are cases of both normal and Artemis SRM6s on mechs.

If it helps, I got it just doing the C-LBX20 component on the event. Nearly 1200dmg with a 2xlb20 Deathstrike on Solaris. Ticked a few boxes in one go.

I have no issues with challenge components that aren't easy to achieve. I've never got the headshot requirement ones. Good on those who have. I don't expect standards to be lowered because I'm not good enough to achieve them.

500 Match Score can be done with any mach, I did get it with different mechs (lrm build, laser build, dakka...) for this event, and positioning is most important. (and so-so team) ;)

500 is rather tough most times to do, I find. I can get in the 400s without too much trouble, but 500+ is once in a blue moon. Of course, I also tend to play in GP, and my group mates are of lower PSR... I also don't play as much as I want/use to because I can't. Hurts to play the game most times now... I recommend not to get Arthritis if you can help it. And I'm only 34! Posted Image

I too believe that re-packaging the master bundles, offer again the performance bundles and perhaps create beginner packages with existing stuff - spices with one or the other new skin and quirks would provide a quick-wins for MWO

The in-game MC store mech mastery bundles have NOT been updated since they added the thunderbolt and wolverine ones in late 2015. It would seem like a relative simple coding effort to add more mech mastery bundles what with almost every mech pack released up until 2018 at least also has a champion version of one of the mechs either created by the player base or by PGI (for Solaris) and thus could maintain the same format of a basic, champ, hero along with the 3 bays and 30 days premium time really easily. It might encourage people to use up their vast MC stockpiles and then leave them wanting to buy more.

If its tough for people then they don't actually deserve the top prize in an event. Not everybody is special in life. If there's no goal posts to get better then you don't deserve the reward for things you won't put an effort into getting.

As much as I agree about having challenges to push people into improvement and to provide a goal post for things... I also believe that the events should be fun and enjoyable. This event I think fulfilled that purpose, and the most challenging task (500 match score) didn't contain any prize "super worth it".

Now, when they had "get 5 matches with 500 match scores", I think that was crazy. A single one is alright, depending upon the time frame of the event. For example, this event had seven days to get a single 500 match score. I think that was fair and reasonable.

I also feel it is overly frustrating and annoying when they place a really valuable prize (recall the hero mech for grabs? It wasn't even one of the "great" hero mechs) with such a high difficulty challenge. It's something more useful to newer players, so I would have liked to have seen that one dropped lower.

In the case of this event, I think it was fair to do the 500 match score. The event lasted long enough to actually give it a try to get it and the prize for it was nice, but not so "must have" that you'd hurt yourself trying to get it. (I hope this whole thing is making sense.)

I see events like this to be one of two major things:
- Events to keep people busy, by creating interest, and to help newer players acquire what they need to improve.
- Challenges to push people to perform interesting or unusual tasks, such as using different weapons, performing certain strategies, or hitting certain milestones.

(I want to add, I'm so happy they removed kills only from the event, and included KMDDs as one of the triggers. Can't tell you how many times I 1v1 an opponent, eat all their damage, one shot away from dropping them, and someone comes in, taps them, and got their kill leaving me without any progress for said older event. Now I'd get the KMDD reward.)

As of yet to be determined/announced.
It's only October 1st. Give them time. Halloween isn't until later in the month...

Ran second baby alt (older then previous), and there was only one issue I could find , and it's only towards newer players.

the nice things about these challenges, is the C-Bills one earns towards that mech they want to purchase, unfortunately , this type of event requires to already have a mech with the load outs needed to complete the various phases.
Clan mechs are not cheap to start with, so Clan portions will add some difficulty to gaining the rewards,

Unless

there are event mechs, that are used like trial mechs, not sure how that would work, when you'll want these Event mechs only for the event, okay cool idea but would require a event server to work how I was thinking how they would be used, only for event.

so the only problem I see is the affordability to advance in challenge for new pilots, when they need the mechs to add rewarded weapons for next phase of the challenge.

the Hellbringer may be the better choice for only one mech to use(start) for clan, and the price for that hellbringer, one can get 2 IS, with the loadouts needed to cover everything, that's what 25 mil (1HBR, 2 IS Heavies),
then the cost for the load outs. Hellbringer its weapons and Omni pods, the IS choices just weapons and maybe engine
almost any Omni Clan mech could work, but some loadouts (slot amount) may not work

other then not having trial mech available to use, awesome challenge

due to me wanting to complete all, it was the most expensive event

I've done the full event and all challenges on 3 accounts so far with 47 hours to go in the event.

This is the first event in ages where Matt didn't take the lack of proper trial mech weapon loadouts into consideration that I can think of (uav challenges that involve using them of course can never be done with trial mechs) in many months when creating specific weapon type challenges.

Just because some of us are not that good as a player. - Certainly inferior to your abilities in this game Dee Eight. - And it appears that you might missing the empathy to understand this!

And while you are a brilliant player you seem to have troubles in understanding motivation of people playing the game. In your on interest you should be concerned to keep the people playing which give you the boost to you ego.

How can you judge I don't put effort into this? You only can see the result but not the effort spend! Again put the carrot too far or don't show contribution to the goal and people get frustrated and turning away from the game. Otherwise we won't need events.

Wow, what a dedication.- But how dos it help us? ;)

In the end your skill in this game matters only so far when it improves the gameplay of you co-players. If not everyone enjoys this game the game will be dead soon because you don't have bots to play with you but people. Something every board game player understands. It I to entertain your opponent not to destroy him, - and yes - that might mean that he also needs his victories ad achievements.

A system which only makes the goo better and the bad worse will fail eventually.
