There must be a day/time that is less populated to do these than Thursday 5 PM EST.

My entire unit waits and the EU guys have very limited time to play.

So I was in game already. The majority said restart steam client over and over until it works. I have no clue why portal is not working but some have got in using portal client

APPRECIATE your efforts, but getting a servers down message. Be nice if updates were done mid day, but guess it would be someone else prime time. PLease correct. Thanks love the game!

UPDATE... Im in, now if window10 update and MWO patch hold I might be able to get a game in....

The solution is to pick a day/time that has less people in-game other than Thursday prime time EST/EU. I run a software company and we do updates at 3 AM to provide as little disruption to our customers as possible.
