No Arms For The Arms Of Your Brother In Arms.

Seems to be an ongoing theme on youtube as well, the best lance I had was without any major weapons in the arms, all around the center torso seems to work far better and ammo in the legs. Legs seem to survive a lot longer.
Are you and your lance mates constantly losing the arms too?

Centurion regularly looses shield arm, often weapon arm too, Jagermech uses both arms every match so I sold it..
I find Thunderbolt extremely tanky..

Yeah, I really love the Jagermech but in prolonged battles the arms just don´t survive bringing the C-bill repair cost far too high. Just about any mech without heavy reliance on the arms works a lot better.

Any Hunchback my lance fielded in my first playthrough had the hunch blown off as well.
I get that more veteran Mechwarriors would know the more common 'Mechs and where to target them, but such precision seems a bit much from random backwater garrison forces driving light tanks.

Uh, "realistically" every mechwarrior/VTOL pilot/Tank crew/ETC (even noobs) should know any common variant (VTOL/Mech/Tank) specs and where their weapons are and how to try fight against them. -> That would be included in any basic training and if you would like to stay alive you really would like to know it aswell. Experienced ones just utilise this basic knowledge better (more variety in strategy/tactics and can change things on the fly) and generally are better doing all the things (IE, hiting things, better morale under fire, etc)

Now that I bought the Warhammer Black Widow and put 4 awesome AC2s and MLs, I can stay back and this seems to keep my lance-mates out of harms way as well. I haven't had the need to replace any components for the last 7 or so missions and they were all rated 50+ difficulty with the highest being 70.
My lance-mates are in the following..
1. Orion Protector -> Gauss + PPC + ML + SRM 4 + DHS
2. Orion 1 VA -> BF AC10 + LRM 15 + 2 ML + 2 SRM4 + DHS
3. Jagermech -> 2 AC10 + 2 ML
I swap the Jagermech with the Centurion when needed to lower the tonnage or one of the Orions with another Warhammer running PPCs and DHS.

QFT
Always. I can almost guarantee my lancemates will return with no arms and the weapons in them lost forever. I view it as an AI BUG since I rarely lose an arm. If armor gets low on one arm I turn that side away from the worst damage. My lancemates seem to lack the Dodge damage ability even when that stat is maxxed out.
So, a BUG or needed QoL patch. Something because I can't progress with no weapons or CBills, I have to go back to low level missions, earn CBills, refit, try again to advance the storeyline. I don't think it was intended to be this bad.

Any Mech, besides some lights (Jenner/Locust/Raven/Urbie), with its primary weapons in the arms is a liability to your wallet and your lance.
When I discovered this, it became a metagame of find the best brawlers.
Which ended in the Cyclops being the absolute best 'Mech.

Atlas AS7-D is IMO better, more firepower and only 2 ML's is arms

I only put the guid weapons in the torsoes.
I even use double heat sinks in the engine heat sink slots of my AI mech as thats hard to kill relatively speaking.

I've never seen a lance mate's Centurion finish the mission with his gun arm intact...
