As the topic says...whats your prefered tactic to skill pilots fast?
I am currently running into the problem that I hadn't found good pilots at the beginning and now I have some better pilots (max skill) but they are currently at potata level.
So what works best for you to skill them fast?
Go into low risk space or better stay in high? Does the risk of the mission even affect how much XP the pilots get during combat?

I don't think there is a best way, other then just time.
I'd like to think how I go about it works best, but really think it's just time.
I use the Mauler 1R, and the Centurion 9A as skill trainers. nothing here proved to be best, just it was a thought to use those 2 mechs , just figure they'll earn piloting skills faster in the Centurion. no evidence proves it does, it's just a feeling
As for Weapon skills, that's obvious. laser vomit for lasers, Dakka for ballistic, Missiles for missiles
it feels easier going to the lower risk space, more being less expensive repairs, but I think that is the only reason

Go back to low-difficulty missions, farm skills and cbills on easy missions where you can bring 1-2 assaults Vs. mostly light and tank/vtol opposition.

I don't think it's faster to level up 3 new pilots as opposed to 1 or 2 by dropping with fewer mechs in a lower difficulty rated system. That way, the AI lance-mates will get more battle time and gain skills faster. I haven't noticed huge gains in skills by taking on higher difficulty missions like in Battletech.

At high levels of weapon skills ( for me 8 to 10 ) I found that the mech they use must have a might majority of damage of that type to level a skill, if the damage is mixed no upgrades are gained even though they do over a 1000 damage in a mission, so use specialist mechs like the kintaro or stalker for missile, rifleman or jaeger for ballistic or blacknight for energy and only give them minimal backup weapons ( 2 MLs mostly as SLs make them charge deep and get pummeled ) , and of-course it still takes many missions as the max of a skill gain per missions seems to be 5~10%.
