As for alt tabbing, just finding the match can take up to 10 minutes, and then the loading screen. I deem that I can use better that time, do some work, etc. Besides, I check it regularly. However, I usually assume that the people who are inactive are disconnected, despite showing the ping. After all seen in this game, I wouldn't be surprised.

Its not planned
Lets say it happens to you, so your here, now what?
Activate beast mode and get dat win or
curl up into a ball, the past u can't change but the future can be influenced for the win in many situations
And frankly
listening to salty people spam the comms is a distraction
Doh it can motivate you at times
So yeah not planned mostly

Anyway, if you alt tab to a web browser, dont use fullscreen for the browser, and you will see when the game starts.

I just left a match where there were two inactive mechs just sitting, although one had at least walked into the city before being abandoned, the other was still sitting where dropped.
I know this happens because there was a match I'd played in that ended early, and then upon clicking drop for the next match, I was presented with the option of joining a match that was all ready in progress. I joined it, sure enough it was a real match, I was somehow still alive and untouched and proceeded to play the rest of the match out.
I doubt PGI will ever do anything about this as this has existed for years, but apparently is also a very rare event (which probably makes it rather difficult to troubleshoot).

The long and short of it was that we naturally got outgunned by the Red Team and was down 10 to 6 before these two jokers finally came out of the gate fresh and farmed the enemy's remaining six damaged mechs quite easily, taking the win and boosting their own stats. It felt very dirty and several of us PUGGers were disgusted in chat and VOIP by this kind of play, but the two comp guys never said a word back and disconnected to move on to their next match.
True story.
LOL! I know exactly who you mean and it didn't change since last spring.

A lot of times we can see not a disco, but another irresponsible player AFK, the mech ready to go, but it won't move.
This has happened as long as I can remember and it's just nonsense how in a lot of close matches you get a loss because of it.

Then your **** is broken.. cause it most certainly does, I wake people up all the time from desk top.. The sound and VOIP are two different parts of the way windows does sound
i do the same whistle i do the same comms check every match, it works well..
While the ingame sound wont come thru.. the comms Does, but thats cause they are two different processes
