---QUESTION(s)---

1. How do I get higher frame rates out of this system than 50ish when in combat?

(I'm not reporting high peaks I'm reporting 50 FPS because that's more like the median/average FPS. Loading in on countdown it shows 170 fps, but once the match starts I get Highs of 78-82fps and lows of 40fps when the SHTF)

I know it's a common passtime to be a douche to me (and other players) any time I (or we) say anything on the forums, but please only reply if you have helpful information.

I'm curious also, if anyone can prove these 100+ FPS frame rates I've been hearing about with a screen shot, it would be much appreciated.

Hacks of course.

On an actual real point - I do it live on my stream all the time. Sometimes I forget to turn the FPS counter on though.

You can also see live that I don't hack, nor does anyone else I play with! You can see all the mistakes you guys make live, as I generally point them out to then 50+ viewers.

I play at 1440p & I average 80FPS even on Solaris City. River City is actually the worst map I find. It also depends on the map/weapons and Time of Day to varying degrees... If it is heavy LRM/Missile then FPS will dip back to the 70s/80s. Otherwise though on low-load maps like Canyon and others, 80-100FPS no drama. sometimes more but again it's the weapons that are the issues and how many/what type etc.

Either way your issue is a stock-clocked AMD CPU. MWO cares only about single core speed.

Im using a 8700k @ ~4.5ghz, for single core speed its virtually unmatched as there are not many better options out there. If I played at 1080p, oh boi, easy 120fps+ no drama.

These are my settings too.

I don't even have everything on LOW. Shadows etc can help seeing mechs around corners (omghacks)... So need those on Med for them to work.

Also your mouse sensitivity is too high, no related to video but at 0.3, that's gonna nuke your aim.

i9 9900k, all cores locked at 5ghz, rendering through a Vanila 1080 at 1080p and my lowest frame rates are in the 50s only in odd situations, typically around 100, test maps can be in the 240s.

Conversely, same rig, streaming so all the eye candy turned on, 60fps pretty much locked while pushing a 6mbps 1080p stream, software encoding at medium.

OC that AMD. Clock speed == fps in MWO as Ash noted.

There is very little OC headroom on Ryzen as a platform and the IPC on first-gen Ryzen is honestly not good enough to keep pace with Intel. Second and third-gen Ryzen chips have dramatically better IPC, with Ryzen 3 having better IPC than Intel, and they have higher clocks to go with it. Third-gen Ryzen also has built-in automatic overclocking to push it by another ~300 MHz or so. And, since memory speed determines Infinity Fabric speed, faster RAM helps. Third-gen Ryzen can use faster RAM than first-gen, which also further improves performance.

TL;DR: First-gen Ryzen CPU is the performance weak point in MWO.

What you're looking for is custom settings in user.cfg - there's a bunch of threads about that in general discussion and on both MWO reddits where the subject is covered in detail.
Among other things you'll want to make sure yours includes e_ParticlesShadows=0 (which disables shadow rendering for particle effects - apparently a serious performance hog).

This game does not need a CPU anywhere in the realm of that 1600af. It is disgustingly poorly optimized and won't make use of what you give it no matter how fast.

I have a 5.2ghz 9900k, gtx 1080ti, ddr4 cl17 4000 ram, and the game on an 850 evo, yet I still avg about 80-100fps, at 1080p drops into mid/low double digits. Previously had a 4.7ghz 6700k paired with the same 1080ti and had virtually identical performance just a couple more frame drops even though my new cpu is 500mhz higher clocked, hilarious....

My 1080ti frequently sits at 50% usage and my 9900k at 20-35% usage. Which would indicate some other bottleneck in the system or the game, and considering I get 300+fps on CSGO, 100+ on pubg, 120+ on apex it isn't my system, it is the game.

I have tried a few different user cfg but the issue is that I have hardware not being taken advantage of, not that the game is actually demanding much. Best bet would be trying out some user cfgs and see what brings up your lows, but there isn't too, too much to be done about the avg unfortunately.

Btw I have a secondary PC with a 1600af and 980ti, that cpu slaps any game out right now and won't bottleneck basically any gpu below a gtx 1080/rtx 2060.

I have a 3070 and a 5600x on a 1080p display. I sometimes get over 100. This game is just sooooo poorly optimized that even with all that, I am just now in 2021 getting consistent above 60fps even on the worst dips, excluding the screen freeze as solaris city initially loads in.

Which is ridiculous because I get 110+ fps on my i7 10700K + GTX 1070, with drops to 80s on maps like Solaris. My wife also has a R5 5600x +GTX 1070 (neither of us could get our hands on a 3070/3080) and she also has 110+ fps with dips to the 80s.

Testing grounds doesn't count, you have to show your fps in live game conditions, aka quick play 12vs12.

Here's my fps in testing grounds (257fps, you can see it in top left hand corner if you click the pic)
Posted Image

Here's what it actually is in game (146fps)

thanks to your screenshots, the questioner now had his proof that 100fps are not a mythPosted Image

in a live game i think i get 130 -145fps ( with this laptop ) ,but I have to test it at some point ...at the moment i play more in VR (Creeds legacy , HL-Alyx , dead effect 2 usw ) ..its more fun for me Posted Image

took the screenshot just to see what the laptop in MWO can do and to show that 100fps are realistic

That's really good on a laptop, my laptop only gets 80-90ish, and with massive lrms and AMS going, my fps tanks to 40s.
