Wolfhound or Valkyrie... but <looks left and right> I'll take a Shadowhawk or a Crusader any day!!!
Crusader was the first mech I played, circa 1986.....

I say give me a RFL-3C type Rifleman and we're good to go. Let's see how those Dracs like my Autocannons!

you can pick anything, but remember, bigger = expensive.

you can fix a centurion 3x for the money to get an atlas back in action hehe, or whatever they scale prices too. assaults cost a fortune to fix when they get messed up, small mechs with low tech weapons are cheap though.

Well for Starter mechs the Davions would look like this.

Light - Valkyrie (if re-seen are available) or Javelin (if not)
Medium - Centurion
Heavy - Rifleman (if re-seen are available) or Jaegermech (if not)
Assault - Victor

LIGHT: VALKYRIE There is none more Davionish than this lightmech powerhouse!!!
MEDIUM: BLACKJACK.... i hear a snicker somewhere... but hey...doesnt Davion have a thing for autocannons and lasers?
HEAVY: WARHAMMER.... because 2 PPCs is better than none.... and none does it better than this.
ASSAULT:.... for the timeline this game represents.... nothing is more apt than the ATLAS.... nuff said

You can't start with an UrbanMech, you have to earn an UrbanMech.

I am a big fan of Rifleman. I'd like to see those ASAP if not as a starter.

Wolfhound WLF-2 has the same movement and speed as the commando, but none of the missle reliance and much heavier armor.

JVN-10N Javelin

'Javelins have served in every AFFS BattleMech regiment since before the Amaris Civil War. In fact, the ’Mech is virtually synonymous with the Federated Suns’ military among MechWarriors throughout the Inner Sphere—it is that numerous.'

- heavily used by the Federated Suns in almost every single Davion BattleMech unit
- still spread by varying degrees to every other House military, so not totally out of place elsewhere
- in service for centuries
- no unseen issues
- good, solid light 'striker' design that could double as a 'scout'

Basically the Davion counterpart to the Steiner Commando, trading a touch of firepower for jump capability.

Yes the Javey would be a very good started for new Davion players, you get some punch, some speed and some jump jets so they can learn a lot and see which way they'd want to go in terms of play style

You're going to be able to start out in heavies and assaults? Hmmmm :/

yes. this isn't going to be an arms race like the previous games. this is more teamwork oriented, as opposed to CoD deathmatch where everyone cares only about getting a ton of kills, and not completing an objective. I'm personally starting in a heavy, because they generally have a good balance.

Big question here is we don't know how battles will be set up, if they'll be balanced tonnage wise or not. I'm expecting folks to migrate to favorite rides that fit their preferred playing style, with the best units being those that can get a good mix of tonnages to handle all treats.

You can tell that alot of these posters in here have only played the video game. For a light mech I would like the to see the Valkyrie or the Javelin. In the mediums I would love the Centurion or Black Jack. Heavies you would have to go for a Rifleman or Jagermech. In the Assault class the Victor is a given.

I also hope that we have LIMITED options for upgrading and modifying. These are IS mechs, not clan omni's.

Heavy: Argus

*facepalm* Sorry... had to say... The first two are very NOT Davion mechs. The Argus is at least an IS design, but 3049 is way too early to introduce it as a starting mech.

Since these are starter mechs, they should be VERY Davion and probably not overly powerful (afterall, need to work a little for the good stuff)

Light: Valkyrie
Medium: Enforcer - this mech is as iconic to the Davions as the Zeus is to the Lyrans
Heavy: JagerMech - Essentially an upsized Enforcer
Assault: I would say Awesome, but they weren't as common in Davion ranks as people think (they were popular, but all Awesomes were built by the Free Worlds League). I guess Victor? Maybe one of the cheaper AC/20 models.
