Yes the game has not yet been released it is said it will come out this summer, the year is 3049 so mechs that will be produced after this date will not be availeble. 1 gameday is 1 real life day right now so a mech like the Uziel will be years off .

*facepalm* Sorry... had to say... The first two are very NOT Davion mechs. The Argus is at least an IS design, but 3049 is way too early to introduce it as a starting mech.
Since these are starter mechs, they should be VERY Davion and probably not overly powerful (afterall, need to work a little for the good stuff)
Light: Valkyrie
Medium: Enforcer - this mech is as iconic to the Davions as the Zeus is to the Lyrans
Heavy: JagerMech - Essentially an upsized Enforcer
Assault: I would say Awesome, but they weren't as common in Davion ranks as people think (they were popular, but all Awesomes were built by the Free Worlds League). I guess Victor? Maybe one of the cheaper AC/20 models.
I am not filled in to the 110% on BT lore and stuff like that, like most people are in this, "community". I didn't know that, and I don't give a S*** if they're Lyran or House Kurita or House Liao, it doesn't make them NOT fun to play as. Enough said.

Yes! its stated in several threads and interviews that there is no limits on what weightclass you start off with ,but i guess mechs cost diffrently both to get and maintain. I guess that prices will differ for diffrent mech chassis aswell ,it will depend on how your standings with a house are aswell if the said mech you want is availeble for purchase by your house. If i understand it correctly players assigned to a house gets discount on their houses mechs . Mercenaires gets discount depending on their loyalty standing to a house.

Light: Wasp, Stinger, Locust and a few others.
Med: Phoenix Hawk, Enforcer, Griffin, Shadow Hawk and Wolverine are just a couple.
Hvy: Rifleman, Jaeger Mech, Warhammer.
Asslt: Cyclopes, Zeus, Victor, Battlemaster and Atlas.
I have left a lot of good mechs not mentioned, but this would be a good start.

Light: Atlas
Medium: Atlas
Heavy: Lostech Atlas
Assault: Atlas with a modified LRM launcher that fires other Atlases.
Just kidding, Realistically, I'd avoid the Victor like the plague. It's armored like most Medium mechs and many-most variants have so many crits worth of ammo, you're begging for your mech to be turned into a roman candle. Granted, since we're talking starting mechs, you can count on whatever you get having some huge kind of achilles heel to make you want to purchase other variants or mechs
Anywho, here's what I'd suggest as a Lyran-Side Fedcom list of starters, all L1 tech because lostech and new stuff is at a premium in this timeframe.
Light: WLF-1 Wolfhound or COM-2D Commando
Medium: HCT-3F Hatchetman or PXH-1 Phoenix Hawk
Heavy: ARC-2S Archer (the steiner variant) or OTL-4D Ostsol
Assault: No question, Lyran starters should get the ZEU-6S, or, as I call it, the "Look ma, I'm a butterbar with a compass and a map" mech.
For Davion? Yeah, I'd suggest straight Valkyrie/Centurion/Jaegermech/Battlemaster
p.s. For the poster that suggested a Puma and an Argus? the Puma is a clan mech, ditto the Hellhound, we're Inner SPhere only, heck, clans haven't even invaded at the time the game starts, also, the Argus is one of the first IS Omnis, something we wouldn't see for years of gamet ime besides.
