Wolfhound is a good choice, but I see that as more of an advanced mech.

Kinda the heavy hitter of the light group.

Yes but it being a kinda key Davion mech I can see us getting this one just like those dang Kuritans getting the Jenner and Dragon a bit easier.

All mechs are available to us, I would think that the wolfhound would be cheaper and easier to get being a Davion even if it isn't a 'starter' mech.

It might be that everyone gets a generic SL era mech that is not house specific at all.

You're going to be able to start out in heavies and assaults? Hmmmm :/

Well, I surely hope so.....Considering you get to play your pilot and spec him to fit your personal play style it wouldnt make much sense for you to have an aggressive playstyle and be forced to pilot a light until you can get the credits or XP to get an Assault...

Pretty sure we will have access to older SL era Assaults that are probably on the lighter side of things at first, just like the other weight classes. We might be able to pick a Davion specific mech as a starter and if not then I bet if you have the LP then you can get a Davion mech for cheap earlier than other houses.

I'd love to see the Raptor D Configuration in MWO seeing as how the Devs are focusing on information and E-warfare. Sadly though the Raptor wasn't made until the clan invasion. But being able to run around with 3x SRM-2s, 2x small lasers, and 2x MGs, with BAP, Tag laser designator, and a C3 slave unit would be so much fun.

While I'd love to be able to jump right into a Valkyrie or Enforcer, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I expect the starter mechs to be more generic, with more house specific 'mechs unlocking down the road, so I'd figure we're looking at Locusts, Wasps, Stingers, and their ilk, which were widely available to all houses (And basically anyone who could afford it) as opposed to more 'controlled' 'Mechs, like the Enforcer, Hatchetman, Panther, etc...

Do not worry, I got it confirmed by a dev long ago. ^_^

While I'd like to see Wasps, Stingers and Locusts in the game (but happy to let them go if it means avoiding the whole seen/unseen rigamarole), at this point in the timeline they might be the best starter mechs for Periphery factions. So... wasn't the Valkryie the standard Davion light mech at the time? Sure, it's the FedCom era, but really shouldn't we leave the Commandos to the Steiners? I'm thinking... whatever fits the lore the best ... like Jagermech is probably the Davion heavy?
Maybe different houses have different advantages... for example, one house may start out with a more basic mech, but with more opportunity for those players to trade up, whereas if another house starts out with a hotter mech, you may end up having to hold on to it longer.

Oh... and wouldn't the Kuritas have that PPC weilding Panther as a more house-specific light mech as well as the Jenner?

First, I'll preface with my personal opinion regarding the selection system:

View PostStrum Wealh, on 31 December 2011 - 10:41 PM, said:

Though, I would have suggested:
  • House-oriented mediums rather than lights (as the former - medium 'Mechs - are supposed to be the workhorses of most military forces) for those who start as faction players.
  • For those who start as mercs, either House-oriented (if the corps is strongly aligned with a particular House) or randomly-selected from the overall list of starters (if the corps has weak or no ties to any House) mediums.
  • For those who start as lone wolves, mediums randomly-selected from the overall list of starters.
At least, that's my personal take on how it should work...

Based on that, I would suggest the following 'Mechs for the House Davion starter list (based loosely on the "Random Mech Assignment Table" on pg. 112 of the CBT Master Rulebook):

ASN-121 Assassin
BJ-1 Blackjack
CN9-A Centurion
CDA-2A Cicada
ENF-4R Enforcer
HCT-5S Hatchetman
WTH-1 Whitworth

Your thoughts?

----------

Barring the above, I would like to see the Marauderas a starter 'Mech. ^_^
Specifically:
MAD-1MDb
MAD-1Rb
MAD-3BC
MAD-3R
MAD-5F

Since we're talking Davion, the initial choices should be something like:

Light
Javelin
Valkyrie

Medium
Whitworth
Blackjack
Centurion
Enforcer
Dervish

Heavy
Rifleman
Crusader
JagerMech
Warhammer
Marauder

Assault
Victor
BattleMaster
Atlas
Devastator

(this would be in addition to any 'mechs typically available to all factions)

Light: Javelin - Balance of speed and close up firepower
Medium: Phoenix Hawk - Gotta be the Project Phoenix version - Love it
Heavy: Grasshopper
Assault: Victor - the most popular on this thread so far

Is it too much to ask for a LAM?

Some more recon mechs. Locust, Wasp or really anything under 55 tons. Nothing worse than a whole battlefield of assault mechs.

Are you saying that a pilot cannot be aggressive in a light mech?

Guys the Wolfhound is a Steiner mech, developed with help from the NAIS.

Not sure it could be called an iconic davion machine.

Really, the most Iconic 'Mech for Davion would probably be the Enforcer.

Light: Javelin, a mech very close to my heart since MW2 Mercs

Medium: Centurion, nice all rounder - a bonus being its rugged stature

Heavy: Warhammer, need I explain?!

Assault: Victor, an iconic House Davion battlemech
