frankly, zoom and especially adv.zoom is one of the first things you should DITCH when you start this game;
yeah, beginners all take it, I did too. my numbers got better after I figured out NOT to use that.
there are many things beginners sacrifice on the altar of zoom that are just WAY more important;
srsly, ditch it.
have a look into it again once you break the 80% mark (or any other number you call 'enough') or so; it has its uses. but almost anything else is more important, and at under 80 you still do "more good" for yourself if you stick to learning all the other stuff, like 'hitting stuff in the first place', 'how to do a good build', heatmanagement, positioning etc.

I apologize but I do still have a life outside of Mechwarrior. Like work and family.

So I just got back to the forum to find everything written for and about me.
1st to address the insults..you really aren't worth arguing with so I won't.
2nd to address the helpfull comments..Thanks. Your replies were what this community needs. People being helpful without all the judgy assholishness some have displayed.
3rd to address the original question.. I never realized that a few years ago when they switched up the game mechanics that they split the zoom into two separate types 'zoom' and 'advanced zoom' so I assumed they were the same.
Did I take a pride hit? Yep.
But luckily some here posted the help I was looking for and for that I am grateful.

You're still spouting nonsense. The mechanics of zoom/advanced zoom HAS NEVER CHANGED, they have always been separate key activations. The only thing that changed was how to get access to advanced zoom. Old way was a 2 million cbill module that took up a module slot, new way is 4 skill points into sensor tree. How advanced zoom works DID NOT CHANGE.

It would appear so, however ...

... there's a bit of nuance there: I suggest that some of you take a closer look at the keybinding options. You might find one that remains the same key once set but automatically changes its behavior depending on whether or not "advanced zoom" is present as skill on the mech and that keybinding ...

... indeed also worked exactly the same when "advanced zoom" was still a module.
So let's just stipulate a scenario there: OP originally set this particular keybinding used that one instead of the normal keybindings for standard zoom vs. advanced zoom. As a consequence he would have gotten standard zoom when no advanced zoom was present on his current mech but advanced zoom if the latter was present ... all with the same key. Now let's dvelve into the idea that after some years and a fresh install - possibly even on a new computer - our OP simply forgot that back in the he used that particular setting but still remembered getting the advanced zoom on mechs that had it but standard zoom on mechs that didn't ... all while using just the exact same key.
But hey, I guess he totally deserved what he got here, right?!

That's a keybinding issue, not a game mechanics issue, which like I said, never changed.

And your answer still is ignorant with regards to the actual problem the OP had and still didn't warrant some of the aggressive and outright insulting comments he got.
So yeah, feel free to pad yourself on the back for having correctly stated that those particular game mechanics haven't changed but understand that ultimately that factually correct statement still is unrelated to the actual problem and you failed at properly identifying that problem. ~shrug~

I want no conflict. the helpful people here are heros. especially to me. you all tried to help me without knowing another key point. I originally founded. most of my gameplay was pre-steam. please understand i had a couple of pre-steam years
