I thought tiers were split atm? With T4/5 being one pool and 1/2/3 being their own ones?

Right now the tiers are mixed with no discrimination among levels but that can change at any moment. Generally, you can tell the percentage of low-tier pugs in any given match by looking at the percentage of votes for Polar Highlands and Skirmish.

Ok, so, as a (relatively) new player, I have to ask; what is up with the way players play the game? I've had more games than not where Assaults (not even full LRM boats) will just sit in the back hiding all or most of the game, popping off the occassional shot............... Is this what QP has always been or is it a new(er) thing?

The match-maker now only checks if there are 12 people per team and that's it. All the gates are open. So, you get the AI from MW5 in here as well.

I have had groups which haven't shot down UAVs despite 1. they were called out 2. the enemy had at least 2 lurm boats. So, please do not insult the AI of MW5 ;)

They are testing different metrics for mm. With tier, with tonnage, with none etc.

A own thread in announcement area.

I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone just starting now. You will be just fodder for the pug farmer groups. There are other games to play.

The game is now filled with potato ranks flooding every nook and cranny, especially more when its sacks of them at once since MM give potatoes a multiplier in large numbers.

So you either find a murderball of elites which will wipe the opposing team, or sacks of potatoes who cant even aim or shoot. The only semblance of balance I have seen since the test of grouplay was whenthere was no groups. Even then, there will be at least 2 zero potatoes on the distribution.

If unlucky, sometimes 3-4 fall on the same team then you have a rotato into the black hole. Its clear we have A LOT of Tier 1s who apparently never learned how to press R, or drive or aim or shoot for the matter.

Ugh, mate. I despise polar highlands in any format. I think Incursion is the only paletable variant I can play of it. I always thought it was voted for by people that nkow their mechs run too hot and need the ambient temp to help cool it. Though I dont know HOW effective ambient temp really is.

EDIT:

I just woke up and had this thread on page one and saw your replies after posting lol. Admittedly yes there ARE other games, but me my mate just need a little change up from Risk of Rain 2 and such. We also miss our Hawken days, and yes this aint Hawken, but it hits that craving y'know?

That's called trading badly.

I find it best to shoot when the enemy is distracted, and if your losing a trade relocate to another spot or just wait till their attention is diverted else where.

Also some mechs are better traders than others, it depends on the weapon hard point locations. I don't have a lot of mechs but the Blackjack 3 is working for me for trading.

Do they still play the weighted voting game or is the numbers game of group voting strong enough to get the favoured map frequently?

I've had more games than not where Assaults (not even full LRM boats) will just sit in the back hiding all or most of the game, popping off the occassional shot. I've also had (more times than it should happen) people just straight up empty an LRM/ERLL volley into my back whilst I'm standing still. I've been standing there a few seconds before they shifted to where they fired from, so it's not like I backed into them (I play in third person, I'd see if that was the case). Is this what QP has always been or is it a new(er) thing?

QP has always been chaotic.
As for LRM boats...some people underestimate that their missiles can also hit friendlies and also need to gain height first and so they fire in your back - which might be especially true when you have a number of lower tiers in the match which really need some more gaming time. This also holds true for other weapons.

In general:
The merging of group and quick play made things worse. In my experience most matches are either being rolled or roll depending on whom got the premade in their team. Some people are so desperate to bolster their score (when losing to get at least a bit damage in - the same funnily is true for a rush because it goes so fast and some peeps play for scores) that they shoot like mad and are trigger happy to the extreme. If you are near the enemy...bad luck If you partly block their LoS...also bad luck.

The only thing bad about Polar Highlands is the constant Nascar around a central hill... I used to hate it when I first started playing, due to the constant Lurms, but it's grown on me. I had some of my favourite matches on that map in a MPL Brawler.

I also like HPG Manifold, actually. But then, a long range build for me is anything that can hit at 500m... ;-)

Maps I really dislike are Terra Therma, because of the horrible visibility in there, Forest Colony and River City.

And yeah, I am not happy about the Queue changes either.

This cowering might also be what is called "trading" in this game, best practice according to the best players in the game.

Based on responses in similar threads; it is waiting if you're a brawler, trading if you're ranged, and cowardice if you have LRM's equipped.

Yeah, i have seen that on Stream - quite an amount of People generating almost 200 Damage FF and the no more only occasional teamkill...

:D

THAT is entertaining in a sad way...

I'm at a point where I don't even know how or what I want to play anymore. Should I be the good guy and play support despite my team ignoring all "Help" calls? Sometimes I'm tempted to Arty strike them when they're busy being greedy and not noticing they're being backdoored.
I actually had an incursion game where I called the backdoor occurring (on mic) from about 1:30-2:00 (probably even earlier) to which nobody responded. Just as we're about to lose one of the heavy/assaults says in a "Do I have to do everything" tone "Can someone get India? We're gonna lose the game." Course we lost lol.

I've tried FW but I don't think I'm good enough to keep up with them lol, it's a whole different atmosphere there..

Another very unpleasant evening. One map we had no light mechs at all, the next an entire lance of fast movers. Some units don't talk, or perhaps are not English speakers, some are chatty but no one wants to propose a plan, others call targets and report enemy movements. How the heck do you be productive in this mess? All I can do is park my lights and run a simple direct fire mech and try to do damage until I die.

Worst match had a unit where all three members in the match constantly spammed the Afirm + Neg buttons the entire match.

I will be strictly playing with C-bills and whatever MC I can win unless they clean this up. When my premium time runs out I do not intend to renew, even if I haven't quit by then.

No, you've got that horribly wrong. The damage numbers and the general contribution to the team decides whether you're a cowardly LRM degenerate or an intelligent player who can play any loadout.

Your aim should be 500 dmg and a kill per game minimum. Everything else, especially now is a lottery when you're dropping solo in QP. Try to consistently achieve those two and your gameplay will improve. Trust me on that.

For FW, check out some streamers who do FW on Twitch, like Yondu or Ash. They will add people to their group and you can learn that way.

That's actually really difficult to produce consistently at the moment. I had several matches yesterday really drag down my AMS because there were a few one sided stomps where - despite winning - I got something in the 180 MS range, because I could not close with the enemy quick enough in my short range builds before they were obliterated, without completely reckless YOLOing into their line.

Today it's the opposite. Did 632, 885 and 820 damage, but my team just melts away in the sun. MS of 499, 496 and 585, 0 wins. In the case of the 885 game, I did not even get a kill. I am currently playing Medium Mechs only, nothing using missiles.
