since the arrival of groups, it has become very very unfun as often i noticed the groups will be reluctant to push, leading to stale and static gameplay. there is also a a mindset of groups that they will hang back, or nascar at the expense of teammates puggies. as result it leads to poor armor sharing.

Meatshield whoever is not assisting, group, solo player or lermer, don't matter.

Ok, so, as a (relatively) new player, I have to ask; what is up with the way players play the game? I've had more games than not where Assaults (not even full LRM boats) will just sit in the back hiding all or most of the game, popping off the occassional shot. I've also had (more times than it should happen) people just straight up empty an LRM/ERLL volley into my back whilst I'm standing still. I've been standing there a few seconds before they shifted to where they fired from, so it's not like I backed into them (I play in third person, I'd see if that was the case). Is this what QP has always been or is it a new(er) thing?

That is actually pretty standard what the solo queue has always been in the past on lower tiers. Assaults don't share armour, don't push, play with LRM's, play as long range snipers, shoot you in the back because they only follow enemy's red targeting rectangle etc. Nothing new here.

Game became more ordered and interseted, instead of constant nascar push around.

I've seen at least as much nascar as ever. The only difference is a group can set up in a power position and wreck the enemy team on lap 1. So now you have the potato tornado with deadly overwatch on the side.

Nascar will be around no matter what happens. You cant stop it.

PGI attempt to merge groups to QP is an attempt to keep those skilled players in the game. Yes, good Comp teams get a 4 man together to increase their win percentage. On the other hand the 4 man teams do lose the PUG lottery and lose matches. So I dont think the merge was affected the QP matches that badly. I have seen alot of 12-0 12-3 stomps but not more than usual before the merge.

There is one Streamer out there that has become infamous in his LRM groups that are attempting to purge the recent changes to QP from PGI. All they have done is to run off many players that normally would fill ques to allow some sort of games. I have seen longer wait times in QP. When you go up against this 4 man crew you are seeing full lances of mechs get little or no damage which cant be enjoyable for anyone.

I am not complaining about gameplay as anyone can play the way they see as fun but be aware there are those trolls that just want to piss anyone off and become famous. I wont name the individuals as they want more media to increase their Twitch following. It is really sad but true.

I hear you, I know the kind. Anything for publicity, good or bad. To them it's all about those numbers. But, the more I've played the more I feel LRM needs a kick in the face and nads to not be as "viable" (if you wanna call it that) as it is now. Force people to actually gain some skill by using weapons that require aim. I find Gauss hilarious fun, but I always get confused when it makes the shot sound and I see shrapnel flying off on MY end, but I've taken no damage.

I actually lurked the forums a lot in the early days of the current queue merge and I read a lot on how stompy it's gonna get, but personally, take it as you will since I'm fairly new, absolute stomps aren't that prevelant. I've had some, in and against my favour, but I expected them. I've also run into so many of the same player so many times, that my mate actually reckons that at some point all the good players will be on each others friends lists. Seems logical.

Saying that I've also met people who AB-SO-LUTELY cannot fathom that someone else has an opinion different to theirs. This was when I was on Polar Why?-lands and I called it the worst map in the game where they might as well have just set a floor mesh and left it at that. He just kept ranting and dismissing anything he didn't agree with (or throw sarcasm in). Ended up muting him and I could hear him through my friends sound because it came back over discord. Much whine, needs cheese.

I will always favor a nerf to the LRMs. I started with lurms and I was forced by unit members to learn how to play laser vomit then moved to ballistics. The learning curve to this game is not as steep as some games so it frustrates the lower skilled players like myself. I am not saying I am a total tater but I started out really tater yolo elite status. I am disappointed in what PGI has done to try to make the game viable. Moreover I have seen more shotgun mechanic style changes like the group que in QP. Really not the best thing to do but the twitch troll LRMERS took advantage and are loving the stomps they create. They think they are doing a service to the community but all they do is increase their following so some can dodge them and others just want to see a fat man dominate on Twitch.

My unit is a comp unit and are good at their game. I am at the bottom of that unit but they have taught me more about this game than anyone could. Some of those twitch trolls dont really understand team mentality so they troll those that want to win as a team. Which is fine as they should play the way they should play. T

The stomps are not always due to heavy comp players in Try hard mechs carrying the team. I have seen more PUG matches go against a premade 4 man and get clobbered. More chances than not the 4 man will win. Just the nature of the match maker. I have never seen a fair match maker in any online multiplayer game. To populate PUG matches you have to have everyone in the que. If we all waited for like skill in the mechs allotted we would have epic high wait times. You have the catch 22 scenario.

Anyways, those that see the game fro what it is are the ones that will stay and make the game viable. The population has shrunk but the shrink has tightened the group to a majority of decent to very good players. But you have to have those low skilled players in the mix to make the game viable. So there you have to include LRM players into the mix.

No, during the open beta most players drop as group.
Playing an Assault lowered the tonnage for other players, and most groups try to use Mechs of the same speed, using team speak (lance leader menue and VOIP was not in MWO during this time) to coordinate the group.
Standing in the back with an Assault didn't work if the rest of the group has lighter & faster Mechs.

But PGI didn't deliver the dropship mode, players left, other start to play more Solo.
And without group it's sensible to take as few risks as possible to avoid an early game over.
Getting killed early give you kill assists, staying alive get's you kills.

Assaults with LRM only avoid risks, make plenty of damage and kill assists.
Thanks to the great range of TAG you don't even need a spotter, even if the enemy is running plenty of ECM.

My group is so guilty of this "static gameplay".

We dropped on Polar Highlands Skirmish & Assault with 4 short / medium range builds.
Instead of going in the middle of the map to get stomped by LRMs we used the VOIP to convince the team (most of them also short / medium builds) to set up a firing line near our base.
Worked the first time in Assault well (12 kills vs 2), the second time in Skirmish one Solo player in an Atlas decided it's to static and charged, ended 4 vs 12.

Same on Solaris City skirmish:
Dropped in 3 Mechs with LRMs + secondary Weapons and one scout with NARC.
Told the team that we don't move with our LRM Mechs in the middle of the city and to set up a firing line in the outskirts.
One player went flanked left and got killed, some went to the middle to get killed, we waited outside an got killed too.
But it's clearly the fault of our static gameplay,...

Started playing the game recently, and was bumped up to Tier 3 yesterday. As soon as that happened, I noticed a massive shift in the style of play which pretty much corresponds to everything claimed by the OP. It's definitely not as fun as playing in Tier 4 or 5, where brawling seemed to happen frequently with maybe one or two LRMs on each side, but now the players seem incredibly timid, and the amount of LRMs has definitely more than doubled.

The irony of your complaint vs your name not withstanding, groups are reluctant to push because controlling strong areas of the map from a position at range is the most tried and true strategy in the game. While that may seem "stale and static" to you, it's certainly more dynamic than running laps. At least then you're fighting over critical map areas and not mindlessly running in circles. There's a purpose and goal in mind to ranged control. And it's been proven over and over again that a smaller number of players from a strong position with mid or long range weapons can easily stave off or defeat a larger number of players with short range weapons. Given all this information, why wouldn't you play that way? I can take 2 or 3 players and stop nascar in its tracks on virtually any map, and we all know that once a nascar team comes to a halt, they are guaranteed to lose the match.

Player almost 25 games last night, and all but 2 were absolute stomps. Even the only game we lost was a stomp, because our solo died so fast I couldn't even make an impact on the game. The reverse happens 95% of the time as well. I blink and the score is already 6-1, 7-1, 8-2. Can't even farm damage because there's nothing to shoot. The only "competitive" games either involved our solos making huge mistakes or us making huge mistakes. Anything else and the outcome was sealed.

The only time I don't get absolute stomps is when my friends list shows mostly offline players and I drop solo myself. Then I'll actually see lights in alpha lance, assaults in charlie lance, and know with a high degree of certainty that there isn't a premade in sight.

OP it's about the same as it's ever been but if a premade or sync drop group wants to heel check, back-shot or meat-shield you including your teammates(informers?) it's being done by better/more coordinated players who can afford to not support you, or they just aren't that invested. Elite vultures(rotate or die) and then there's casuals walking into the premade lions den.
I just jammy the s*** out of my off meta nostalgia builds, try and cooperate and have fun.
(too much premade feels cheesy sometimes)
I've seen some good will from adversarial guys. Some genuine well mannered coaching for noob acting clutch-plays resulting in a noob closing the win. Feudal revenge banter. Road rage. Guys getting bullied at the expense of the team.
Some comp guys doing hard carries/fails. It's been the most diverse and inconsistent I've ever seen.

It would be a hard time to learn but also they'd probably be learning fast by watching some best and worst habits too.

Honestly, to me it's been a "more of same" since the last change to FW. When FW changed to it's current iteration, we started seeing an uptick in the whole "sync drop" thing. That had it's own problems, but the result was normally one side having more than a couple of guys on their own comms, doing their own thing.

Which is what we've got now, but through some miracle of programming, we also get the effect of "no rhyme or reason to the mixture of weight classes." Nothing quite like getting seal clubbed by a team not only with a premade, but one that outweighs you by a couple hundred tons. I don't know about you, but I figure those matches put us in as target practice for the other side. An unannounced feature.
