I think I wouldn't go for a 1:1 copy of the BV system but it could very well be a basis. I think it would help in balanceing matches a lot if we have a system that takes the loadout of a mech into account.
While BV can hardly be ever fitting to everything and you can even min-max with it pretty hard and create low BV mechs that are killers its rather hard to do so.

I think such a system could generate more balanced matches without secrificing clantech on the altar of balance. More to that
further down.

As for the pilots. Yes PSR needs further adjustments. I think damage is overweighted as well as wins. Personaly I would kick wins out the window because you hardly depend on the team you are dropped with for winning.

When the goal is to have a system that judges a single person in the team don't increase that persons standing on win an loose of a random team.
When you are the best player on the battlefield you should be rewarded accordingly and not be pushed or brought down by a random chance you have no influance over.

Just yesterday we had a match with two guys with 955 and 777 damage with them alone killing half the enemy team...guess what they lost because random people. Next best player in the team had 489 damage but there where also two with sub 100 and one with 0...and he wasn't AFK. F*** how do you manage that?
Anyway W/L with randoms...no kick it out. It dosn't work for a Personal Rating System (yes that would be PRS not PSR ^_^ )

How about we kick side torso destruction completly out of the window and make it so that you cradualy performe worse?
I mean that is allready implemented just that IS XL gets more heat when a side torso is missing.
So Clans would still have the advantage that they get less heat from loosing a side torso loss but IS players could actualy field XL reactors at all. I think I have no IS mech anymore that hasn't been changed to LFE by now.

Another point that I could imagne is giveing IS some advantage instead. Like you can put more heatsinks into the reactor when using an XL reactor. You would still go boom faster then a clan mech but concidering the large double heatsinks....I might be tempted to use an XL when I can put more double heatsinks into it. That way I could actualy make more use of the tonnage I freed up by using an XL instead of haveing to use single heatsinks because I can not use the free tonnage meaningfull.

I am quite on the oposite end. IIRC lore correct clansmen prefered harder, faster combat. I think there was even a mentioning of IS tactics to dry up clan supplies by haveing extended campaigns and fights because clanmechs usualy had very little ammunitions. Clan duells where allways short because the mechs had more firepower and better pilots.
Also the Batchall, where they used as few resources as possible, led to shorter campaigns.

In that regard I think IS would be the one that should be centered around extended battle durations while Clans would be hard hitting.
While my first idea would be to have clan weapons either produce more heat or have a lower firing rate so they would have a higher damage potential in a short timeframe, they would need to destroy their target in that short timeframe. Else the IS player could push in and kill them because they can put out a constant barage of damage.

Problem is that this would open up and entire can of problems like "How does the IS player survive that first attack?"
"How short should that timewindow be?" "Wouldn't that tose lore out the window in some way?"

I don't have a solution for that right now. I think there would have to be a lot of thinking and first of all a direction to be found.
Do we go with what the weapon tables tell us? That would mean that each clan equipment part on its own is supperior no matter what. That would mean that we need balance in teamsizes / BV / tonnage.

Do we go with the lore in regard of what I mentiond above and make battles more "themed" around IS doing long fights and clans short ones? In that case we would have to ignore weapon tables and make new values for everything.

I would love to see a reinvestment by PGI into this game, more balancing, fine tuning, new maps, weapons, mechs etc. but those days are long gone. I appreciate and applaud your optimism as I’m sure many of us do but again, this game has entered maintenance mode, when a game enters that state it’s simply a way of saying we are maintaining it to function, we are no longer adding, or improving in any major or meaningful way due to time, cost, player base size or what have you that they need to justify the increase. The only way to truly get PGI to take a look back is to get a massive infusion of players into the player base we have now. For the sake of discussion let’s say there are 15000 active players currently... I’d say you’d need 30000 MORE for PGI to even turn their head for moment towards it and consider it viable to return. Those are just estimates/guesses.

Of course I’d love to see more stuff, more clan weapons of course, Hyper Assault Gauss for example could be fun but that requires coding, and PGI won’t code anymore for this game since it’s simply not profitable anymore. The game will forever remain as is unless PGI really gets a huge investment of players and it won’t, it’s an 8 year old game with an ebbing and flowing pop as is.

Also balance is still an issue and always has been, the idea of min/max and meta can turn a population away. Battletech has been about creativity since it’s inception with custom builds, I run custom non-meta builds and have for 7 years and won’t change, but I enjoy the game regardless of that, many others don’t and want an at least competitive experience without meta and their own unique flare those people won’t keep interest long enough to grow this player base for PGI to reinvest, they’ll see it’s play one way or lose always. I keep trucking because my builds aren’t perfectly meta but they are potent enough to hang, and some even teeter close to the meta ridge without ever crossing it(think the uac5/10 Madcat Mk.II-B, mine has 4 uac10’s and 2 er mediums because it’s more fun and I enjoy having those back up lasers when my uacs run out of ammo or get blown off). But I still truck along playing, making friends and enjoying what I can win or lose being a mech pilot and that’s all we can do now unless a miracle occurs.

@Tech4417

Yes I try to keep the "hope" flag up for as long as I can. I know its overly optimistic and that the harsh reality is that PGI either needs to win in the lottery or as you said, a large infusion of paying(!) players to even be worth investing time and effort into from a economical standpoint. They need to pay bills and investing into a product that dosn't return money is wasted time and effort.

I think the best thing PGI could do is opening up development to the fans. I think, when looking at MW5 and how fast mods where released, that PGI either has no idea or fears legal problems to much to unleash what creative potential is inside the community.

The other possibility is that the blocker lies with Russ. Sorry Russ if you read this, its not meant in an ill way, maybe I interprete things completly wrong. Its just the impression I have of you.

The way he talks allways gives me the feeling that he is
A- realy into Mechwarrior
B- he needs to stay in control

The first part is good, from what Russ sometimes talked about in interviews/podcast, etc. he has some good ideas and sees the potential.
The second part is the problem. From my experiance people like this...well you need to formulate and sell everything so that they feel its their idea. Else you won't make no progress at all no matter how good the idea is.
I have a feeling that this is happening inside of PGI and they have no one to sell him stuff correctly or can force ideas.

Frankly I would love to fly to their office and just sit there and listen to what they talk and think about.
Other companies, where I hear reports about or listen to them talk about themself or how they work, I can pretty clearly say "Yes thats a place I would like to be or no those guys are strange". PGI ? No clue.

OH well I am drifting off topic ^_^
Back to the topic of dreams.

Yes I would also love to see more equipement but it has to come with a rebalance pass with a clearly defined goal.
Speaking of balance, you can't make it right for everyone. That is a given. Pick an overarching theme and then build the game around that. Either be a competitive shooter or a tactical game or a fun experiance, you name it.
Beeing as broad as possible will allways result in a lot of people not beeing happy.

Also people who want to min/max will do regardless of the overall theme and design. Thats also something that will happen and I think that is what a tier/skill system is for. Seperateing the min/max players from those who just play the game the way they feel good about it.
I tend to play a lot of builds that I can work with/are fun for me and some semi-meta builds. Semi because I either don't have the right mech or because the meta isn't exactly my playstyle....and I admit it... I have LRM boats when I want to feel dirty ^_^

Still I think MWO isn't as bad as people make it. To me its the best Multiplayer Mechwarrior game today and while I played other games like Destiny2, Warframe or World of Warships as examples of popular and successfull games ...I still return to MWO.

So beside haveing stompy robots...there is something they have done right. To me its that the combat feels good. Not right, not perfect but good and comforting somehow.

Again, with what they have, Spider 5V is probably one of the best mechs in the game for objective capping and squirreling. Problem is, again, when it comes to Matchscore and Cbill earnings, Squirreling pays nothing and you earn so little from Objectives that it's simply not worth it most of the time.

Agree that pgi pays very very poorly with doing the stated objectives in game modes except for the 'kill all enemy mechs.' I'm sure my image of pay out during the removed escort vip with a win is still floating around and others have screen shots of their 'winnings' from objectives too.

The game has always favored and paid out more for just killing the enemy than an objective. Still if pgi really wanted to make people do the other objectives they could easily copy paste that 80% quirk and change it then put it on other mechs. There is also a small capture node or two in aux tree but no one really uses those.
