Old thread, but still valid. And kill stealing (or mopping up leftovers) is the way to earn it. The second time I earned Ace of Spades was Loooooong ago when I was the last one standing and mopped up the rest of the enemy team with a Spider on canyon network. (Which tells you how damaged they all were and how long ago it was, a freaking spider.)
Not necessarily, some months ago I managed 7 legit kills in an SRM Wolverine 7K and the 8th was close but someone else got the killing blow. I out-brawled everyone, I didn't hide or mop up kills. I also managed 7 in an Awesome 9M on Rubellite by accidentally falling behind the enemy. Yesterday I got 6 in a 3 LPL 12 Micro Executioner and a seventh would have happened but ST loss on one mech caused it to suicide by heat. I did manage 8 kills a few days ago in an LB20-X/Micro/SPL Executioner, but it was on an alt and the enemy came at me one or two at a time into close range. Mostly though, I find high kill games happen due to massive opponent error. In every example I listed, I got maybe 4 kills "naturally" and 4 more from coming up behind players who weren't paying attention. When I see players get a high kill count, they aren't usually scavenging for last hits, they are in good positions smashing out massive damage very, very fast.
