Lrm Or Not Event.

Lets just do it and run an LRM vs not tournament for a week.
If your mech has LRM, NARC or TAG it spawns on the LRM team and if it has none of them it spawns on the not team.
If the tournament ended with a full stats page for damage, kills, crits, maps etc for both sides that would be even sweeter.

I would not.
AMS is part of the standard LRM defense and is traded off for other tonage or perks.
If we change the way things are played it is hardly a balanced test.
Plus, i dont think quad ams is going to be a competition decider.
If you all go for 4xlaser ams, when you overheat under LRM teams missle fire and their spotter just walk around with a firestarter 1 tag and some machineguns to kill you all in your sleep.
They will out ammo your balistic AMS in seconds, you can add more ammo if you like but it will only weaken your overall build.
The LurmNation are all about group tactics not solo play.
Yes, agreed polar maps are likely a LRM win and some others may be a likely loss but part of the idea was that it would be played across all maps and give a little info on what team won more matches on which maps.

I expect it will be meta back and forth all week.

Under normal cirmumstances there are maybe 1-3 LRM boats while you have nearly all mechs with AMS.
Also LRM, as you said, is about teamplay...thats something I hardly ever see in QP. When I see it LRMs can be very effective on the right map when brought in masses (more then then normal 1-3...more like 4-6) and have a good scout for locking targets.
I would say while LRMs aren't totaly worthless still their use is limited. I see them as a weapon to soften up targets for the final blow.

If we're going to do this in a balanced matter then we have two options:
- Prevent AMS shooting down missiles through walls
- Allow missiles to shoot through walls

Sounds to me like you need to put your money where your mouth is.
If you come within 200m of the lurm pack I will give you 1 000 000 imagionary cbills.

They will hold locks for each other.
I was not going to answer that one, but yes you have stated the obvious.
The other 11 teammembers will still be on the field getting locks.
The lights with the narc beacons and tag should make it fairly easy, that is what the technology is designed to do.
Why would they not be able to get a lock? Are you planning to hide?

That's not a lot of c-bills, but I suppose it isn't a taxing challenge either

Yeah, about one kilometer behind my team which is the usual hiding distance of an average LRM boat in MWO.

Bad place to hide... If you're gonna sit there, watch what happens next... Really bad place to hide...

Tongue in cheek, but on a serious note before anyone gets any ideas, most builds that correctly focus on a specific weapon range do need the support of other weapon types on team mate's 'Mechs to fill in the gaps. LRMs on one team won't prove much, also they're not *that* bad - certainly not over nerfed. They have a bad rep for the kind of play they encourage and skill deficiencies they can hide.

I say the problem wasn't only the AMS but people not realising that what they are doing was just bad gameplay.
