If any of you are using an Nvidia card, try turning game filters on. The difference is dramatic, the blurry game graphics almost completely disappears.



The filter that makes the biggest difference for me is Details, I set Sharpen to 100%, Clarity to 19%, HDR toning to 21%, Bloom to 0%. Tweak all the available filters to your own liking.

You are using the settings via Nvidias overlay/GeForce Experiance...what was it called...anyway do you know that there is another option to activate the sharpening of the image that has less of an impact on performance?

As far as I understand what you activate is a postpro process that Nvidia provides, originaly it was intendet to be used for screenshots.

Instead of useing that try going into the Nvidia driver settings
Nvidia Control panel -> 3D settings -> Image sharpening

Turn it on and I use
- Sharpening -> 0.35
- Filmgrain removel -> 0.5
- GPU scaling -> on

For me that gets me pretty much the same result for the sharpening but costs me less frames. What it dosn't provide is the brightning of the image you get with your HDR settings.

I tried it by itself and it seems far weaker an effect than the game filters, but I applied both and it seems better than game filters alone. Nice suggestion!

Glad I could help.

Personaly I don't like it if the effect is to strong, thats why my numbers are pretty low. It also seams to depend on the resolution you are running. My screen is 3440x1440 and there, even a smaller factor, seams to have more impact then with a smaller resolution. Maybe because the image in that resolution is in general sharper.

Also I use AA only very slightly if at all what also affects the sharpening. So when you have AA on high settings the image gets more blurry in general so you have to apply a higher sharpening.
Nivida developed this extra sharpening options because of the AA effects that are applied by a lot of games.

Thanks for the tip!

I found 100% sharpen a bit harsh so I've set it and 'ignore film grain' to 75% and it looks great with no fps hit.

Wow. Thanks for this Nightbird and Netsutizale. Set both to 0.5, GPU scaling -> on and it looks amazingly better on oc'ed 1080Ti @ 3440x1440. Curious as to what your in game Advanced video settings are at?

It's in the Nvidia Control Panel (Windows desktop, right click). It's in the Image Sharping row. I don't use it though, this option is only useful if you are upscaling instead of running the game at native resolution.

For those wanting to try this at home- Alt+F3 in game. Alt-F2 is for photo mode only. Alt-F4 is for desktop mode.

GPU scaling works by calculating the image at a lower resolution then upscales it to your native resolution. This is intended for cases where your GPU isn't fast enough. Like in my case where my screen resolution is higher then what the card is intendet to work with.

I found a complete video about the topic from Nvidia where they explain the setting a bit. If you want to know more about the filers start the video from the beginning. Else it start with the explanation of the control panel options.

Speaking of the filters, its basicly that Nvidia took ReShade and implemented it as part of the drivers instead of haveing ReShade as an extra tool.

On amd it is called image sharpening. I am using 70-80% on my 5700xt. Rly like the results (2560x1440 with aa on fxaa)

Quick question in the AA part. Is anyone using aa in mwo? I will try msaa later.

Another comparison, you figure out which one is blurry stock and which one is sharpened.

Then use the sharpening options in the Nvidia control panel Nesutizale mentioned. No Geforce experience required, though you'll have less options.
