Mouse wheel zoom so that you can wheel the mouse one way to zoom in and wheel it the other to zoom out instead of using the middle button to toggle between different zoom settings. I find that all too often I am in the 2nd zoom setting and would like to go back to the default zoom, however with the way toggle works now, you can only toggle once more to go into the 3rd zoom setting and then toggle again to get back to the default setting. If mouse wheel zoom is implemented you would be able to zoom in and out as you please instead of following an arbitrary toggling pattern.

I'd like to have the mouse wheel be configurable. Not necessarily for zoom, but maybe throttle. Let the player pick.

ability to simply bind the mouse wheel to stuff both forward * back would be nice. for myself id like to be able to zoom in/out with the wheel, and if adv zoom is equipped simply add it as a third level of zoom.

Did PGI ever explain why they removed scroll-bind?

I know it was there during CB.... :)

There is a workaround for this. I've been using mouse scroll zoom for a while now. You can bind it to nearly anything, but it requires file editing.

There are posts that cover it way back in the guides forum. Just have to look.

I don't think it's ever been possible in the actual key binds, and yes, it would be good to have in there.

Edit: here is one workaround.

And if you do not want to d/l a player made file...

Kinda rough when we have to post a forum poll to try to get functionality from one of the more commonly used parts of a mouse.

YES! Please!

I hate the current zoom mechanic. The fact it's server sided makes it even worse, it has LAG!!! A zoom with lag!! What the hell?

Use your mouse program to configure the Z button to your scrolling... currently I have my scroll wheel set up so that scroll up changes my sensitivity and scroll down cycles targets. Even the most basic of gaming mice should have this features available...

Khavi posted this for our unit and it has been extremely helpful for me. Kudos again Khavi!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open MWO, and rebind your zoom and advanced zoom to an unused location. I'll use O and L for this example. This step is only necessary if you are using the default keybinds for zoom and adv zoom.

Close MWO before continuing.

Browse to your MWO install path --

[redacted]

Open the [redacted] file with notepad. You are looking for action name m_toggle_zoom_mode and m_toggle_4x_zoom_mode and their respective values.

For m_toggle_zoom_mode look for the input="O" or whatever your keybind is. Replace the O with "mwheel_up".

For m_toggle_4x_zoom_mode look for the input="L" or whatever your keybind is. Replace the L with "mwheel_down".

Save and close the actionmaps file.

Open MWO and check your keybindings. For zoom and advanced zoom you should see @k_mwheel_up and @k_mwheel_down respectively.

I hope that helps.

Hey that's very awesome if you to post the code necessary for this. I can't imagine it would take much for PGI to write those lines into the next patch.

Remap the Wheel in the settings is all that is needed...
of course you need the function - zoom in and zoom out - instead of toggle zoom

Sheesh. This is a great idea. Right now I cannot even configure my chat keys to anything else because it is not allowing it. Half the battles I cannot even communicate with the team if I don't use the default keys.

I voted no. Its strictly selfish reasons. I use the wheel for my Alpha button, and I am very lazy an would rather not have to remap it. :P

Strangely, there is no ''m_toggle_4x_zoom_mode'' in my [redacted], even though I own an Advanced Zoom module.

you have to change the key away from its default for it to show up in your [redacted] file (I think)

I would like to see it as an option, because I'm very happy with the current solution by clicking the mouse wheel. It would be nice, if they add the zoom factor for advanced zoom to the zoom factor rotation (1, 1.5, 3, 4).
