So when's the last time you saw a Gold Khan mech?
Tonight I saw a Timby in the wild with its golden camo.
But only after someone said: "Is that one of those (Super) dollar mechs?"... -.-
But hey thanks R***** for washing the dust off and taking it for a spin. Posted Image

Dire Wolf, about a year ago. Got shot by it's own team.

To be fair I've seen that with pretty much every mech at least once, usually within 30 seconds of dropping.

I have never seen one, only heard tales of them being shot on sight by team mates for being accessory to crimes against reasonable monetization strategies.

Weren't they for a charity event or something? What's the story?

I think that I saw one (golden Masakari, I think) in July or in August.

No, that was the Sarah's Jenner.

There is no story.

Golden 'Mechs were just a special offer made back in 2013. You bought one of eight original Wave 1 Clan OmniMechs ... and you got your Clan 'Mech with the special golden skin. The cost was not exactly low: $500 per one 'Mech.

Since the interest was not as high as the company hoped, they later added as incentive additional Clan 'Mechs to your golden 'Mech.

Those golden 'Mechs have the letter (G) as part of their designation. They are rarely seen in the game.

PGI hinted that they could offer golden 'Mechs again, but it has not happened yet.

Purportedly those golden 'Mechs were attacked by their own lancemates sometimes, but personally I have never witnessed this. In all my games when somebody took his golden 'Mech to the field, everybody behaved normally.

I feel that the Gold Khan skin might be forever associated in a bad way with early MWO marketing tactics.

Hence our suggestion for Platinum skin mechs.

They were a "top tier" preorder package for the release of the first wave of Clan 'Mechs. Toward the end of the promo, PGI even tried to squeeze more purchases by marking the Timberwolf skin as almost sold out, as if that could happen with a digital product...

I remember that when PGI closed the store page, golden skins for some 5 of 8 Wave 1 OmniMechs were still available.

I have seen that happen twice. First time the gold mech got legged crippling him at the start and other time someone blew the gold mech's back out.

Those teamkillers were only damaging their own teams.

While gold mechs were once released, there was no gold 'khan' edition.

So no one has seen a 'gold khan' mech ever in game.

I hardly ever play anymore, in fact I'm surprised I made the "100 games" this year to get the loyalty cupcake.

I haven't seen a gold mech in years. Even back in the day, you hardly ever saw one. I think it had more to do with not many people actually bought one, than anything else.

That being said, I never once saw a gold mech get TK'd or even take team damage (other than the normal bad weapon control during a fight kind of damage). It probably happened sometimes, but I doubt it was near as common as some are lead to believe.

I actually liked the aesthetics of a Gold (Khan) mech, but seriously disagreed with the obtuse money grab marketing tactics which it entailed.

I mean, what if they were to get away with this?
Would $1,000 packages be next?

(Witness the R*b*rt Sp*c* Ind*stri*s package prices--it just kept going up and up).

Yes, those 'Mechs were nice.

Personally I had no problem with the pricing of golden 'Mechs, as long as it was a purely cosmetic matter.

These golden 'Mechs were exactly as fast and as strong as 'Mechs of the same type bought for C-Bills.

I wasn't around when they were announced (started a few months later IIRC) but I've never seen them become subject to friendly fire.

I've seen a few instances of people escorting them and treating as something of a prized good-luck charm though.
