Hey all,

Haven't played in years just jumping back into this. Where is a good place to get some updated current builds?

Grimmechs is a good place to start, but beware of builds slower than 80kph if you are playing solo drop quick play, as the current state of matchmaking means you will want speed to reposition when your team inevitably does something unexpected. Anything with high burst damage regardless of heat is good, as you can use the down time due to heat to find yourself a better position to shoot the next volley from.

IMO good builds from that site include:

4xHML 1xHLL Incubus 4
5xMPL Wolfhound Grinner
5xMPL Vulcan 5T
3xASRM 6 Assassin 23
3xATM Vapor Eagle 3
3xRAC 2 / 4xML Warhammer Black Widow
2xUAC 10 1xER-PPC Sun Spider Vanguard
2xUAC 5 2xUAC 10 Mad Cat MKII B (slower speed, but brilliant firepower)

You will notice that many of those builds carry excessive ammo. I would trade a ton or two in for a heatsink if space allows, or a bigger engine. There's no point having an extra hundred rounds of UAC ammo if you have no UAC to fire it from.

If you check the guides section, you will find Bows3r contributing several, IMO those are the better builds as they favour the high damage, then reposition meta game. Keep in mind though that they may be armour sparse - many builds will drop armour off the arms and concentrate weapons in the torso. Such builds favour good positioning as twisting to avoid damage when you're caught by return fire won't help.

To build your mechs and see how they work out side of the game without spending any c-bills/mc:

To try the skill tree and not burn all your xp and time grinding:

Right now, the main thing to make sure to bring to the "new Group queue" (once known as QP) is either as much AMS as you can put on a build or ECM, or both if you can manage it. Right now, the population is fairly evenly split between Comp players and the usual solo action you've always seen in QP. That means a fairly equal split between "meta" builds and lots of LRM/ATM rain.

Beyond that, as much as the elites want to deny it's existence, NASCAR is real. They'll be the first to tell you that more often than not, it's impossible to get a team to hold a line. If you can't keep up, you get left behind and get wolfpacked. That's simply how it is. Unless you've got a fast assault, don't even think of bringing it.

While Grimmechs is a good place to start, keep in mind not all of the information on that site is up to date. The Rifleman IIC info is not accurate since whoever does the editing on that site has failed to update the hitbox issue that PGI has fixed months ago. Other than that it is a pretty solid site to give at least some build ideas that newer players can build off of.

There's other sites that I personally like better and which are more up-to-date
MechDB for mechlab
and
MWO Skills Grid for skill tree planning

MechDB sadly misses the quirks for the last mech addition to MWO, the Dervish, sadly.
Both make use of MWO's import/export function, which I find totally handy.

In addition to all above good info, if you haven't played since long, you should be in tier 3 due to PSR Reset.
Having a look at this thread may be usefull:

While Smurfy's giant table of hardpoint locations and easily searchable quirk reference have their uses, these tools are superceded by MechDB ( https://mech.nav-alpha.com/ ) and Kitlaan's skill planner ( https://kitlaan.gitlab.io/mwoskill/ )
