I'm a returning player to the game after a year and a half off. I've played 70 games since coming back and I am struggling with how poorly my piloting skill score has dropped. Has something happened to how scoring is compiled at the end of the match since I left?
When I left, I was a hair into tier 2. When I got back, I found that I was in the middle of tier 3. I expected to be rusty and lose some bad played games. First, I'll admit that my W/L percentage has been 20-25% which has always seemed to play a role in your final piloting score (playing an average game but on the losing team would drop your pilot score). But what shocked me was that I had a decent game, was alive at the end of the match, had about 320 damage and my piloting score went DOWN. I had another game where I did 350 dmg and died on the winning team and my score was neutral. In the past, those 2 matches would have increased my pilot score. With a huge slide down, now I find myself about 75% into tier 4.
I'm curious to know where I am finding myself amount other players now? Tier 4 to me in the past was good new players on the way up or poor, not team playing people that usually died in the first 3 minutes of a match. I'm not really angry at being in tier 4, just annoyed at the amount of time it seems to get into a match now. If MWO had 10,000 active players, maybe I wouldn't feel so bad that I'm a returning player needing to polish his piloting skills again. But when last I knew, we had less than 4,000 active players and the numbers kept dropping. I don't know if anyone has the raw data, but I would be curious to know the amount of active players in tier 5 through 1.
Thank you for any information on the topic and any hand holding telling me that I'm not a bad team player... just that your piloting sucks right now...

There was a tier reset along with modifications to how match score and therefore tier progression is calculated. Previously it was almost impossible to lose rating, now if you don't deal decent damage and/or end up dying you lose rating. If it's a big deal there are ways to increase your score without changing much else - use consumables like the UAV to spot enemies, or damage farming weapons like ATMs and AMS.

Matchscore calculation remained untouched, but the way PSR change is calculated differs drastically since June 30.
