From the time back then when NVidia offered the "Deal of the Decade":

GTX 1080 TI?

Are we that far along already?

JK on that, but seriously, South African Budget still has me on a GTX760... and 2nd Gen i7 Posted Image Posted Image

So anyone complaining about 1080 being sub-par can leave the room...

Well, definitively, when you bought a 1080 TI for a good price and stayed with it you did everything right and even now there is little to no reason to panic buy i think is the message.

And Kudos man, you have a passion for this game - if only PGI would apreciate it more!

I have a 1080 non Ti and it plays all the games I have at high FPS at 1080p

Most games are CPU bound at 1080p and if you use a 1080p monitor, even a plain non Ti GTX 1080 will easily do the job with most games.

CPU is what counts I have found, when from a i7-3770K to a i7-5930K to a i3-9100 to i7-10700K currently.
With the good CPU's I am getting over 100fps in MWO on a GTX1080 non Ti and when running the i3 CPU it was not good.

So CPU makes a difference how good your GPU works.
GPU must be fed by CPU
If the CPU can't keep up, then GPU cannot work at Max.

And 60 plus, average 49 fps in Star Citizen.
Witcher 3 - Maxed out
Fallout 4 modded plus 100FPS

etc

So at 1080p resolution the Nvidia 1080 still cuts the mustard and is in fact better than alot of later gen GPU's imo.

Yeah, its a bit surreal that GPUs are still that CPU-bound as i remember a time when it almost was certain that CPUs would completely be overshadowed by GPUs yet CPUs still have such an impact.

And i feel the 1k Series will have a place in history as one of NVidias best ever.

1080ti here and it pushes 4k 60 no issues past the very newest games and those bog down even the newest cpu and gpu at 4k. If you can nab one for around $300 its still a great deal and perfect for high refresh gaming on 1080/1440p displays. I will probably not upgrade till the next batch of gpu come out since these last two iterations have been pretty lame.

Playing MWO on an Asus 1080 Ti and a 4790k i7 pretty smoothly at 4k resolution. I think only Solaris City gets below 60.

Same results with an i5 4670k oc to 4.2 ghz. Solaris is buggy in that sometimes it will render all the animations on the buildings fine and run smoothly then sometimes it glitches out and the animations are all scrambled and the frames drop dramatically inside the city. But they still typically stay in the 40's or higher so its not a huge issue.

I play on 3440x1440 resolution and an overclock 1080 Ti does 100-110 FPS. Not bad.

My GT545 still runs MWO in medium to high options on my old PC; admittedly I've moved up in the world with my current rig, but I still play the same settings with negligible difference in appearance.

What's the safe way to overclock it? I burnt out my 780 Ti and I barely every tried overclocking.

I use MSI Afterburner, enabled voltage adjustment in options, turned up core voltage and power limit to the max, and run the free 3Dmark benchmark while boosting core and memory speed. I monitored the temperature (I'm <70C under load) and boosted everything as high as possible while the GPU remained stable (didn't crash or artifact), then reduced the settings a smudge more.

What keeps me safe though is my wallet. XD

My final result is +60 coreclock and +760 on the memory. Your result will vary based on the board manufacturer. I also OCed my CPU to the max since MWO is CPU bound. Both my GPU and CPU are watercooled though, with AIO loops.

I overclock and undervolt my gtx 1080 with the curve feature of MSI afterburner (you set the desired voltage for each desired frequency). Best of both worlds :)
