How would you gauge that kind of damage? Because that would have to be completely different from regular strikes. How long do the flames last? How much does it heat up the mech. Do they remain on the ground or immediately go out? Does it effect the terrain or not?

I don't know what kind of weapon it is, but it looks like a cool weapon.
Since heat-related weapons are disappointing, it would be interesting to see unusual properties such as sustained damage.

There are actually two known inferno missiles: Inferno lrm20 and inferno hvy rocket launcher like in mw4. Inferno lrm 20 is like regular lrm 20 except the damage is only 8 points not 20. If it made its way to MWO, Total Heat damage could depend on how many missles actually hit, if all 20, heat damage could be 8 which would be higher than flamer, but since its all in one burst, the tradeoff is it could all miss the target or get reduced by corsair ams shields. At least it would balance out.

These "Inferno lrm20 and inferno hvy rocket launcher" are non-canon weapons from the fan mod of MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries. They also made the game massively unfun.

Since flamers and plasma PPCs are a thing, it seems natural that inferno missiles should also be included in the game. They would do heat damage, instead of armor damage. They should be easy to program in, because they just use the existing missile weapons' in game models.
Personally, I would only add inferno SRMs, meaning you have to fire them without the benefit of lock on.

What about only inferno SRM 2s? Like in the board game?
Also, in the board game the ammo had a chance to explode if you went over about 66% heat.
Implement this, plus maybe a few other restrictions (double tonnage, limited ammo, shorter range, extreme ghost heat, zero actual damage) and you've got a weapon that's roughly as effective as a flamer, with roughly the same level of restriction to prevent it from getting out of hand.
Gameplay wise, I'm not sure why we need an alternative to the flamer (countering plasma cannons could be a good excuse) but I definitely think it could be balanced properly. Although I can also see why Cauldron doesn't like them

Plus, it would make my favorite tabletop unit a reality: Locust LCT-1S with two inferno SRM2s. Completely ineffective, but really annoying.

Essentially, they are against such ranged stun-type weapons.
After, all, when they finally added a similar weapon to MWO, they ensured that the heat effect is almost unnoticeable.
