A single group of one corsair, nova and ams kfox will shut down m boats really easy so always have at least one laser and a strike so you can do some thing beside be a free kill.
M boating is also the easiest way to skill up a no skill mech to 91.

It’s not for LRMs, it is against ATMs. There seem to be a surge in their use recently and they can really hurt.
The nice thing about AMS is that their benefit is cumulative, so the more of them around the more you invalidate any lock-on missile build. Seeing a stream of atms/lrms completely disappear in small clouds of poofs is satisfying.
Eat your heart out meta Veagle!

Behind a big rock or hug the low ground and move side ways as lrms and atms have an arc to hit the ground. Buildings work too. Once you figure out where the m boat is and their arc is you can just move out of it side ways. Going forward or back might just keep you in the boat's range and max range for most mechs is 1035m with a dead zone on is boats at 179m and under.
If all else fails hug the enemy and hope they eat a lot of team damage.

As a LURM boat, facing enemies with ECM coverage, non-los targeting takes fracking forever!
As a LURM boat facing a lot of AMS, well, simply put, it's a sucky round in the end.
As a guy with ECM, I am happy to help prevent locks while maneuvering for the kill, sometimes you have to hit open ground, and take a few for the team.
As far as AMS, it's nice to have when your rushing the said LRM boat to knock it out. lol... I carry it, and always will regardless on game type. FP included, just one AMS and a ton of AMMO for every mech that has a slot, and it helps the team, and your end round score overall. There is always that one pilot who runs LURM, some are better than other, but, there is always that one.

When we're not running massive amounts of AMS, they often like to run LRM parties. They're gradually learning to be good with ballistics now, but it's been funny being on both sides of the AMS.
Even just a couple months ago, I rarely saw AMS boats. Now it seems like there's a Corsair or Kitfox pretty much every match.
Remember, if you're bothering to run an AMS, get the AMS Overload skills. They nearly double the effectiveness!

it's just a way to make the game different from time to time
an Assault mech may be able to cause so much damage but
sometimes they need a little protection, from missiles, lites whatnot.
ya you get no reward, no Glory , but it can sometimes be fun.
and the real goal is winning the match, or in my head i think like that.

I was saved by a dual-AMS Phoenix Hawk last weekend. I foolishly tried to run back and rescue a friendly assault left behind by nascar (I should know better by now than to do that...) and got caught very exposed to an ATM Vapor Eagle. Nearby Phoenix Hawk picked off a good chunk of the ATMs for me, and I got away with a sliver of my mech left. Survived the match, terrible score though.

I took out the kit fox on Grim Plexus, and the other team had that little missiles of any sort I finished with ~9850 of my 9900 rounds. They must have one dude with SRMs and that was it.
This is what the people whinging about AMS padding PSR don't get- for every big AMS match, there's a bunch of mediocre, and a handful of almost 0 input.

The sweet spot for noticeable PSR gains seems to be at around 300-350 missiles shot down. I noticed games where I did crap but shot down over 300 missiles and it ended up with neutral or positive PSR even with like 130 damage done.
