I suggest having a minimum match score that if you exceed it, you will rank up for ranks 3, 4, and 5.
Specifically:
Rank 5 - Rank 4 (halfway to 3) if you get a match score greater than 100, you gain PSR.
Rank 4 (halfway to 3) - Rank 3 (25% of the way to 2, 75% to go) if you get a match score greater than 150, you gain PSR.
Rank 3 (25% of the way to 2, 75% to go) - As currently implemented for gaining or losing PSR.
This will require a certain amount of skill, and allow players to gravitate towards Rank 3, but you won't have to farm PSR as much.

This becomes far to easy to game the system and doesn't reflect player skill all that well. Some of the best mechs and playstyles for getting high scores are not actually all the beneficial to the team.
I used the example in another thread about how much damage and score you can get out of an LRM boat that over all had a negligible impact on the team. weather you win or lose really is the best metric we have for how good you are. Yeah you might have a streak where you go 5 games with just simply a bad team and it wasn't your fault that you lost but over 100-200-300 games the team makeup will have less of an impact on your overall win/loss and it will be more based on how well you do.
