Don't quit your day job to do stats analysis. People were asked to rank their favorite maps, and their least favorite - those are different questions, and you cannot compare them as equivalents.
"Soooo, no...." the survey result was crystal clear - it is literally the question the survey asked, and you can't ignore that in favor of dubious motivated reasoning based on a different question. Out of the ten maps to choose from, just under a third of the respondents picked Alpine as their least favorite large map in the game, with the nearest competitor being Solaris VII at half that number. None of the other choices drew even 10% of the vote.

You can't ignore that by using motivated reasoning on the other question. All that data point says is that 28% of players who don't prefer Grim Plexus, Solaris, or Tourmaline prefer Alpine instead. But since over 61% of all respondents picked one of the three top maps, just having Alpine be above the middle doesn't speak well of its overall popularity. What you're seeing here is that the people who don't hate the map likely tend to strongly prefer it. We could speculate on why that is, but the data doesn't support your conclusion.

Better check that poll data a little closer there, next time.

You stated that the poll your refering to placed Alpine "solidly as the least favorite"...correct me if I'm wrong, but "least favorite" would mean the lowest percentage of all other maps. Out of the 10 maps named in that poll, that clearly was NOT the case. Not agreeing with something, dosent give you the right to slanderize , or prevent others from enjoying it. If you dont like the map, then dissconnect from the server when it comes up...problem solved.

You're wrong, and you're not really even paying attention. As I pointed out to you already, the actual question asked in the poll was, "Least favorite Large Map." It's just that simple. I'm not telling you that you're wrong in your inferences - though you are - I'm telling you that you are empirically incorrect about the outcome of that poll. And you are. Alpine wasn't just selected as the least favorite large map, it was selected by a greater margin and higher absolute vote count than the "winners" of the other size categories for "Least Favorite Map." Don't quit your day job.

PS: You've just broken the forum code of conduct in trying, unsuccessfully, to win an argument where you're clearly wrong. Bravo! I'm not gonna tell the mods, but you might want to fix that.

PPS: Even if "slanderize" was a word, it would not apply to pointing out the empirical facts of a poll - and just because you like a bad map, it doesn't give you the right to accuse people of slander and to try and silence their opinion. If you like the map, vote for it. Problem solved - and I don't have to violate the code of conduct to say that.

Bud, you don't get to accuse people of "slanderizing" you (or the map? It wasn't very clear) and then pretend they're overreacting when they slap you down. You're literally repurposing sexism as a deflection mechanism: "don't get hysterical, sweety, it's just an opinion..."

1st of all...I am NOT your "Bud"...2nd...you did slanderize the Alpine map by saying how much you detested it and that you even used your ingame multiplier for that specific purpose, so that others couldent play it when it did come up (which is not very often nowadays). What confuses me the most is, this seemingly brilliant light you seem to try to cast yourself in as a community patriarch, and turn right around and dis PGI by throwing off on mighty fine piece of intellectual property. All the older maps were good maps, some of em just needed a tweek here or there. I wish we saw more of the older maps in the rotation....but alas, the squeaky wheel gets the oil dosen't it? 3rd...as far as "slapping me down"....as you wishfully put it...you got it to do. I dunno if that was a physical threat or not, but I welcome the challenge none the less. I don't know why you always come across soo angry in a lot of your posts, but it sure seems that way to me. If you got RL problems that are gnawing at ya, I apologize up front. If you are angry with me because I did not use the correct pronoun of your choice...I apologize.

Sorry bud, should I have called you "sonny? If you can't stand the heat, stop sticking your head in the oven.

"Slander" is a knowing or reckless falsehood perpetrated against another person's reputation. The term does not apply to my disliking a map or thinking that it is badly designed. Accusing someone of "casting themselves in the light of a community patriarch" - an outlandish accusation whose merit I cannot imagine - might be, though. Similarly, it is not a "dis" against PGI to enjoy their game while recognizing that map designers who quite possibly don't even work there any more screwed up what they were trying to do with Alpine. And that's not even all that's wrong with your disingenuous, insulting post.

So, to summarize:
  • Your criticism was wrong, and I was right. This is an empirical fact, because the information I reported was literally the result of the relevant question in the poll I cited. Whether you like the poll or agree with its respondents does not alter that fact. You may not like the fact that 664 people voted that way, but your disagreement does not add to or subtract from that number.
  • Your style of "argument" is pompous, condescending, and stunningly dishonest. You try to pick fights, and when you don't get an angry, seething response, you simply pretend that you did - ignoring the arguments you can't answer in favor of trying to pick a fight again.
  • Since you refuse to engage with others in good faith - instead actively attempting to provoke forum fights and engaging in amateur sophistry, there's no reason for me to engage with you. You have never presented a good argument whenever you've come after my posts, and your baseless accusations are tiresome. Your speaking privileges are revoked, and am placing you on ignore.

Major suggestion - entirely remove the map & mode selection process

It slows each match down by 30 odd tedious seconds, allows players with minmaxed builds to avoid the flaws of their builds, and results in uneven player experience.

As far as I'm aware every other game like MWO has random map/mode choice. It's not a feature that's needed, it is a feature that can be 'exploited', and it's annoying as well.

While we're at it cut the post choice loading time down too!

It was better when the maps were random. Also if someone disconnects, or fails to ready within a few seconds, they should be removed from the queue and replaced with players who are waiting.

I'm not sure about random map selection. I mean, on the one hand it's fair, and lets people experience all the maps evenly over time, even if you're in the minority in your preferences. On the other, it removes player agency and feels punishing if a new map isn't working well.

Just slow down the Frozen City appearances. Seems like half my quick matches are on Frozen City, and every time it comes up it's the one everyone votes for.
