Yes, once you have launched the game via steam and logged into your account, the steam bundle will get connected with your account and you are good to go. After that, you should be able to get back to the traditional launcher if you want to. In terms of updates, the steam version always had better performance, though.

Thanks for your help, manged to get the Solaris Hero pack and now they are in my mech bays.

You can move them. Only single-shot camo patterns are consumable like that.
