The new PSR system basically punishes people for trying something new or trying out a new build/mech that is unskilled. It feels HORRIBLE to see your PSR drop just for trying something new. I watch that meter fall and fall and fall and it feels like I am FORCED into playing my meme/meta mechs in order to pump that meter back up just to STAY in the tier I got plopped into a year ago - I was tier 2 and comfy there (mostly). Got put into tier 3 and it feels like with the new system that I am constantly battling that damn meter. This meter struggle cost me my boyfriend enjoying this game and caused him to quit after breaking his keyboard and mouse after dropping down to tier 4.
Can we MAYBE get a consideration in the PSR calculations for when people are running an non-max skilled mech?
While I'm glad there was a PSR reset to help players land where they should be in the tier brackets and I'm glad there was a PSR tweak, it does feel like now, more than ever, you're punished for trying something new or something you're not GOOD at.

I can't see a problem here. Just run your favorite builds and eventually your PSR will move you to a Tier filed with players using similar builds to your own.

Moving between Tiers is not a punishment. Play with your favorite playstyle, use your favorite 'Mechs and builds. You are going to end up in the appropriate Tier, even if it should take two or three weeks.

It is perfectly common that some of your early games are not so good (i.e. "bad"), when piloting an unskilled 'Mech. However, those early bad games should be more than balanced by all those "good" games that you will have in your new 'Mech after you master it.
And I hate to say it, but if you "struggle in Tier 3", what would you do in Tier 1 or Tier 2, where the number of very skilled players in very optimized 'Mechs (and often dropping in well-coordinated premade groups) is much higher?

the PSR is totally fine, i'd say that it's even too easy to get to tier 1.
Tier 1 only means that you actually have a hand attached to your arm and that you are capable of utilizing more than 1 neuron per time.....dammit people won't even move and shoot at the same time or load full armor unless you get at least in tier 3.......like.....wtf
You can for sure play ****** mechs and still outperform the vast majority of tier 1 pugs if you have even a resemblance of skill.
If you can't do that, you don't need to ask PGI to adapt the game to your personal needs, as it is entirely possible to fix your issue by increasing your personal skill.
For sure certain weapons are completely USELESS, like laser vomits and laser gauss combos, but then its a weapon nerf problem, not a PSR problem

Everyone thinks they can copy other builds and just play them. Some builds take more skill to play. I thought that's why a lot of player were always freaking out about lock on weapons all the time

You're missing the point here. With just a handful of matches, I could swing from halfway through tier 3 to threatening to drop to 4 with just grabbing a mech out of the shop, spending 20,000,000 c-bills on building it then playing it. Playing the SAME mech over and over gets BORING. I'm good with a handful of meme and meta mechs (4 LB10 Anni, ATM VEagle, 4 AMS Corsair, UAC 5/10 BAsp, etc) and they work at keeping my PSR from falling too far. Before, I literally accidentally floated up to tier 2 off that brutal event last year to gain 75,000 match score to get a warhorn. Tier 2 was fine. I did pretty decent, but never really got more than halfway to 1. That's FINE. I'm no pro and I'm FINE with that.
Nowadays, I'm tired of hunting match score and damage and try to just have FUN playing. Which is FINE, but when I keep seeing that damn meter falling because I decided to try my hand at playing a new mech or a mech that's unskilled is quite frankly, distressing. You see tier 5 as being some punk-*** rando n00b that doesn't know which way to point the PPC (think the Federated Suns, here) and tier 4 becomes a hole you don't want to land in because you KNOW you have nearing 1,000 hours of game play in MWO, therefore dropping tiers IS a punishment and many see it that way. How many people do you know who have quit over it? Even ONE is too many in a game that needs to grow its player base to survive.

However, the average skill level of players in MWO is incredibly low. If you are even halfway decent, the difference between skilled and unskilled mechs should not make much of a difference in how well you perform compared to other players, since the bar is very very low.

I bring up "meme" regarding "hold locks for lrm" and those of that ilk. Like it or not, there ARE viable meme builds out there. Chaotic_Harmony with his "missiles go woosh" meme is pretty funny, but actually is viable despite being a meme.

Sounds to me like you're an ePeener whose beginning to wake up. Quit trying so hard and enjoy the ride. Most of the folk in T1 define their fun by "How many pugs did our 4-man crush" be glad you're not part of it.
The sad thing is there's only 5 tiers so everyone in T1 thinks they're as skilled as that Veagle pilot.

If you play an unskilled mech accept your PSR might go down, if you play an ineffective or meme build accept it will go down. If Lebron is playing in flip flops with bricks tied to his ankles he's not going to win either and he is not going to expect that and neither will he throw a tantrum that he lost.
Damn I thought Sunday morning was going to be boring
