We need to ask that this thread get pinned, so those of us who wish to help and those that need the help can see it without having to resort to occasional bumps.

Ye its epic fail on my part, I can forget to bump this for days and also if there is plenty of crying/discussions going on the forum it can just disappear way to quick.
However there is a sticky in the guide section and the public TS is mentioned in lots of stickies.

Hey guys, I just joined today. I've played every MechWarrior since I was a kid, but really need some help with the UI and tactics. I'm getting slaughtered with how I am used to playing in MW4. are there still classes? I got onto the TS server. Should I try to schedule some time with a trainer, or just wander on and see if someone is available? I'm so glad to see that there is so much community support!

most people will help you on TS no matter what channel you go into.
just speak up, if peeps are busy by lets say running a game.
just wait for 2-3min and then ask.
Nothing is written in stone accept don't be an asshat :)

One thing I've learned. Check your weapon ranges. Firing weapons that can't reach is one way to waste ammo, give away your position, and build up heat, all without the tradeoff of doing damage to the other team. Lasers are good midrange weapons, LRM's are generally good for engaging the enemy at long distances, machine guns and flamers are great for close up combat. It's simple stupid, but you'd be surprised how much better it makes you and how much more you will actually contribute if you remember to check your ranges before pressing that trigger.

Firespear your kind of right but also wrong.
medium pulses, small pulses, medium laser, srm, ssrm for close combat

I consider close range to be anywhere from 400-0m. I've been out of the loop for a while so its like I'm learning all the things I did as a little noobling. Thank you for making the correction. I look forward to joining you (or destroying you) on the battlefield.

Did the TS go down? Or is it a problem on my side?

Awesome idea. Am an adult newbie, shouldn't be playing games, but this game is Brilliant!
Have been playing regularly, but struggling, so will hook up shortly.
It is a big learning curve to this game for a new player!
Have ordered a headset, should arrive next day or so.

Truelley an awesome game. Had been playing Eve Online, but have not touched it since started playing this

I'd love to get a little training but it seems like the server is down. Hopefully it'll get online again asap.

you download teamspeak 3.
its comms people use when playing computer games.
install and use the IP/Password to the the server.
In the server there is plenty of channels, you can join any channel most people are friendly enough to help out

If one wants to join in the training, how do we join in?
How do I find the training area?
Do I need to book in beforehand?
Am pretty hopeless at present, but keen to improve.
