So I played MWO back in 2014 and 2015 a ton. Was part of a clan and experienced all the drama that the initial round of community warfare included. Eventually I moved on but this game, despite its sometimes extremely hostile community, gave me a lot of fond memories. Now, I am bored out of my mind and need something to look forward to after a day working.

Anyway, I was hoping I could get a general explanation of the state of the game at this point. Specifically, I preferred the clan mechs and had purchased the clan waves 1-3 (and a few others but cant really recall them).

Some specific questions:
1. Are any of the clan 1-3 mechs still viable and if so which ones?
1a) favorite mech to play was the maddog with a bunch of srms. is that viable anymore?
2. What is the current meta? back in the day, I think laser boats were king
3. Any huge mechanical changes that I should be aware of?
4. What is the general overall health of the game like. I think I remember community warfare died pretty quickly but is it primarily still death matches or is there anything else that everyone plays?
5. what are the preferable clan mechs to play meta wise

Of the Mechs you already have, the Summoner is probably in the best place. It can do 2-cERPPC pretty well. 2-cUAC/10 isn't bad, but the Bushwhacker with 2xIS UAC/10 outperforms it in a lower weight class. The Hellbringer is a solid laser vomit platform, but honestly Clan Lasers aren't nearly as good as they used to be. Boated Clan Autocannons and cERPPCs are the top performers for Clans right now.

The Warhawk and Dire Wolf have decent long range builds (4x cERPPC and 6-8x cUAC/2 respectively) but require very good positioning and may not be worth the trade-off in terms of performance:skill.

If you like Clan Mechs, the Blood Asp makes a good UAC boat. Since it's an Omnimech, pick the CT with the ECM slot and then Mr. Potato Mech the Omnipods from there to get Ballistics in the shoulders. It can fit 1x cUAC/10 + 3x cUAC/5 solidly.

The Vapor Eagle is also a generally top tier platform. It's a 55-ton Medium that carries Heavy/Assault weapon loadouts. 3x cERPPC, 3x ATM-9, 1x cUAC/10 + 2x cUAC/5 are all contenders on the VEagle. Bear in mind the VEagle is a Clan Battlemech, so chassis matters.

Speaking of the bushwacker, the BSW-X1 with 3 RAC2's is a monster that will make an atlas get behind cover fast.

wrt 1 and 1a: my maddog h is currently at the top of my stats. its an atm boat. the chassis has sufficient mobility to bring those beastly things to bear in their 3x damage bracket. hellby of course is always a delight. and at the top of the meta is the vapor eagle, excelent in atm and ppc play, and there is a 5x uac2 variant if thats your thing.
