Been playing for almost 2 years now. I enjoy the events, especially the big ones. The best event IMO was the "kills with trail mechs".
I play daily and usually get in a good 5-8 games a day. I notice with the match score/damage events that at the beginning the amount of LRMs and ATMs increase at event start.
My preferred mechs are mediums with MRMs or laser vomit. I don't much care for LRMs or ATMs but I don't begrudge their use. Look for UAVs, kill them, position well, bully LRM boats when you can. Don't be an easy radar lock.
Anyway, its not uncommon in a drop that you get hammered by LRMs and ATMs and struggle to avoid it. Just happens.
So yesterday when I died 3 matches in a row to LRMs and VGL-3s, I decided to switch over to my Kit Fox-PR with 3x AMS and 5x ERML and escort the fatties and poke ranged.
In the past, you'll see an increase in COR-7A, KFX-C/PR in queue when the lock-ons come out.
What is absolutely a hoot to see/hear are the VGL-3 and Nova Cat players griping, 'You AMS farmers are nothing without your AMS." This was said in all chat multiple times in multiple games. Humans, am I right?
Now. I don't like using AMS as a way to farm match score. I know its a real thing. I don't want to reach tier 1 unless I know I can hang in tier 1 with 90% of my mechs. I typically bring the multi AMS as a RESPONSE to seeing an uptick in ATM or LRM use. Using AMS to keep my company alive longer and me alive longer = me able to blast out more shots => more damage => better match score. There is the real and frequent possibility that bringing AMS does nothing. When the "Brrrr" sounds gets silent, I switch back to my preferred builds.
Now some players will say, "AMS use for match score is bad, and it should be fixed." I can understand that some players are highly skilled and experienced enough in the game that they can flex their piloting skills without AMS or even meta-builds.
You guys can talk all the trash you want.
Its the pilots relying heavily on the lock-on game complaining about AMS.

If everything stays as it is in terms of current LRM and ATM performance, they could take away all match score aspects to AMS use and lots of folks (raises hand) are still going to run them on any mech that can mount two or more of the things. LRMS are just that prevalent now.

Yeah AMS being a good idea to survive lurms is a separate issue from the match score.
Both total damage dealt and AMS missiles destroyed are slightly overvalued in Match Score calculations and should be taken down one notch. But thats not a balance concern, just a scoring technicality.

AMS shooting down missiles currently gives no c-bill or XP earning, only Match Score. Cut the MS effect by 75% and change the reward to more c-bill and XP, it's easy...

I like to feel the majority of both LRM and AMS griping is in the heads of a small group of people and most people really don't care much about either of them.
Both products are entirely accessible to every single player and locked behind no paywall or grind of any sort besides a few credits. If either were ridiculously impactful then more marches would just be SNV-A vs Corsairs and kitfox.

The LRMs usage is massive in certain tiers.. The lower the tiers the more they are used, It stands to reason 99% of the uncoordinated (or Drunk) use them every night. They as a whole take significantly less talent to use.
Sure a minority are very skilled with them but most admit the majority do not.

Can we make the heavy guass weight 28 tons instead of the18 it does too? Or add 25% more weight for all other weapons besides lrm?
As for using lrm good luck with all the ecm and ams boats in 3 or lower tier.

Imagine maxing out the survival tree and not installing equipment that can potentially reduce hundreds of incoming damage to your team.

I've never seen or heard anyone complain about "too much" AMS or farming it for score...ever. In fact I've never heard anyone complain about AMS at all in game so I'm not sure where you're coming from. People appreciate it and mostly people use it to counter missiles not so much for score.
That's just the nature of the game, if you bring an LRM boat there will be rounds with lots of AMS/ECM and you will have a hard time punching through, its something you have to live with. Likewise if you get bothered by LRMs its likely due to your positioning, movement and build. Again something you need to accept.
There is an infulx of new players, I think its great, but they seem to be very frustrated with the game not understanding that that's just the nature of MWO. There are "hard counters" to things, but at the same there aren't definitive ultimate formulaic answers to situations like in most other games and this seems to confuse people even more.
The number of permutations for builds and loadouts is infinte. Its about finding play styles within this broad spectrum that are fun for you.
There are many ways to enjoy it and you play what you like and don't let haters tell you what you can or can't do. Hell, turn off chat (in the options menu) if you can't ignore it.
Also you'll find that skilled players won't talk trash to anyone for using AMS. We might get confused by whacky builds, but I doubt anyones gonna rip on you for using AMS. We do it to, everyone does it. AMS is good.
