Hello. No, you will not need an Epic account to buy and/or play MW5 on Steam, GoG, or XBox. Hope that helps!

While that helps some people, could another problem be discussed?

Currently there are reviews for the 2 versions already out where those playing on Microsoft and Epic cannot do Co-op. Some even state they will not play anymore because they bought on one platform, a friend is on another.

I figure GOG and Steam will divide this into 4 platforms.

Will there ever be an attempt at putting all 4 on 1?

well at least one good thing is they aren't charging full price for the core game (one of my major issues with digital download games is at least with physical copies the price will go down over time. digital will often charge you full price for a game thats been out for 10 years or more). still not sure i want to get MW5. its a tossup between MW5 and the upcoming Biomutant.

honestly they shady way they went crapic exclusive at the very last minute was a bad enough burn to make me not want to get MW5 until there is a big steam sale on it or something. not even sure the current price is worth having to wait a year and a half for the game.

Dafuq? Where did you get this information from?

Then forget it. I ain't buying MW5 in Steam if it needs an Epic Account regardless, **** epic and those that enable them.

would still rather give it to epic than ms.

Well now they have MS / xBox exclusives, maybe the Hero comes to MWO but it is not even there right now.

Soo...I am looking at their post on a couple of sites, and I couldn't help but notice under the New Weapons, they list Short Burst Lasers, and Stream? SRM's. I played Battletech for a long time, and I don't recall either of those weapons. And searching for them on Sarna turned up nothing. Did they typo Streak SRM? And short burst lasers, aren't those Pulse Lasers? lol

No, streak SRM are already in the game. The also have Stream LRM and normal LRM. Streams fire in a stream like clan LRM/ATM do in MWO now. So my guess would be they add sth similar for SRM now.

Hello,
I have a question about MW5 and it's relation to MWO. I've been playing MW for a very long time off and on and mostly when it was still a disc game on PC years ago. Is MW5 the same as MWO or are the separate games? Is MW5 already out and the DLC is being added on May 27th? Sorry for the ignorance, just out of touch with the game a bit but still one of my favorite games ever.

MW 5 is the single player/(lance coop v ai) game made by the same company who made mwo. Similar controls and mechlab, but no clans as of yet, different (arguably better) game engine, and hordes of lighter mechs and vehicles instead of actual opponents. (In general, there are some endgame areas that do involve alotta assaults.)

I enjoyed and played all the way through the campaign, but came back to MWO in the end. I am told MW5's even better with comrades to play as your lancemates.

~Leone.

P.S. ignorance aint no problem, specially as you're questioning to fix it.

While some mentions list Stream SRMs, others do not so not sure if they are definite.
Odd they add Chem Lasers since they were discontinued in history before setting and only brought back by a Clan but whatever.
Do not know about Short Burst Lasers.
I want to really see Mech Rifles.

In some ways they are similar but others not.
Weapons have slight differences in stats, some weapons are unique to each game due to different time periods for settings.
Some of the equipment also works differently, ECM is not a Stealth device in MW5 for example and PPCs seem to have an effect on the firing unit's HUD, not sure about target.
You cannot change engine for different sizes from what I saw in videos and hardpoints are even more limited, some Mechs like JagerMech-S have less than they do in MWO plus some hardpoints are for only certain sizes of weapons. In MWO you can put all Medium Lasers in every Energy slot on a Firestarter but not so in MW5. End result less customization.
No skill tree in MW5.
MW5 is out but getting a discounted price on the 27th when the DLC comes out, right now MW5 would cost you about $50 but on the 27th you can get base game and DLC for same $50.

So, as the last holdout, what's going to be the plan for those of us who backed it and are still waiting for our promised GoG keys? Will we be issued new GoG download keys or will the original EGS keys work for GoG? Will we get the expansion pack since the price dropped since we "purchased" the game way back when?

I don't have (real) internet access for 9 months a year so I really need the GoG version.

Short burst lasers?? Huh. I guess a laser " shotgun " could fit that bill. Several laser beams released at once in a pattern and Pulse burst lasers could be the same, just behaving with 3-4 pulses of the pattern instead. I would LOVE to see that become a Battletech canon weapon....

So I got an answer from Piranha Games today for us hold-outs. You remember when the kickstarter said we could get it on GoG or Steam? Yeah, you can now go BUY it there, but you're not getting a code.

Hi there,

hanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately, we are not providing owners of the pre-order owners with codes for the other platforms as announced back in 2019.

Here's the official announcement regarding steam key availability for MW5 Pre-Orders that was released during our refund window:

It is important to state that Piranha Games is fully committed to releasing MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries on the other storefronts after the Epic Store exclusivity ends. We have given careful consideration to some Community Edition Pre-order Owners desire to wait 12 months to receive a Community Edition Steam Key in lieu of a Community Edition Epic Games key. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer this as an option for Community Edition Pre-order Owners. There are a number of reasons, both known technical issues, and potential future issues, it is difficult to make commitments that can't be fulfilled for 15 more months that rely on platforms and other aspects outside of our control. While we remain very committed to releasing MW5: Mercs on Steam and other platforms we believe that the version we release could be significantly different than what people have pre-ordered and what we are releasing Dec. 10th 2019.

My apologies I can't help more with that.
