Is This The Worst Optimized Game Ever?

Alright, I have a decent enough rig for a game this old, 4770k and a 2070 super

I don't have settings close to maxed out and only postaa....and this game drops below 60fps at 1440p all the time

The new Doom runs at like 130fps consistently, no problems.

What am I missing? is the optimization that bad or should I be doing something else to get better FPS

I think back in the day it was determined that low settings actually ran worse than high? I don't know if that's the deal now, but no, this game isn't particularly performant.

The game is poorly optimized graphically. The engine isn't bad but you have to tweak it out pretty far to get it to run smoothly.

Try MrVaads optimization scripts.

I did a bit of optimization myself and further modified the user script for a bit more consistent fps and better rendering of distant terrain and objects.

I've been trying to debug an intermittent crash, and part of that was putting everything on the lowest settings. My framerates have completely tanked as a result, and I get frequent stuttering.

The graphics engine is old. You basically turn off the spiffy stuff.

OFF = ambient Occlusion, FXAA, MFAA, Transparency, DSR, Anisotropic Textures

Set everything else to Application Controlled. if the app knows about it, it controls it, if the feature didn't exist when the engine was written, it ignores it.

I can have this game running at 35fps, dropping to 15fps in brawls on solaris... and alt tab into far cry 5 on ultra at a stable 60fps capped. Cryengine vs Dunia I suppose. Times have changed.

a very old Theme and sadly to say...its nothing real Solution since the Main Programmer of the engine leaves the Party 2014/15 and PGI not found new Cry Guys on the Job Market.

The engine is fairly old, so it's not necessarily going to be taking full advantage of the architecture of your 2070.

For reference I'm running a 3060, with 4000mhz RAM and an i5 10600kf. I upgraded from an old 1060 with 1600mhz RAM and a first gen i5. I used to get some stuttering on the old setup when things were loading in, but now even spinning right around at Solaris City spawn has zero effect on framerate.

MWO predates modern GPUs so it leans heavily on CPU for performance, and benefits mainly from single-core speed.

the MrVaad user.cfg tweaks linked earlier should help though.
