Pgi is doing what pgi does best. They're trying to string us alone so they can get the bonus agreed on in the sale.
Nothing new or big is going to happen be happy with what we have or move on to a better game.

It'd be expensive. For an uncertain payoff.

it'd definitely be a risk! but I can't see Hatchetman/Axman/Berserker packs being anything other than top-sellers

Rather than ask for adding generalized melee for all mechs, this is a more realistic ask. Add a new class of weapons (melee), new mechs with new hardpoint types that can equip melee weapons. Give these mechs and only these mechs the animation for attacking, akin to how only some mechs have missile bay door animations. Model the "weapon" as an extremely short-ranged projectile with a low velocity (maybe with ~25 m range and ~100 m/s?).
Since such weaponry would be highly restricted to only being equippable by a handful of chassis, it might also be easier to balance simply by properly quirking the mechs that can carry it. It's not a weapon system that will effect the entirety of the MWO mech line-up.

An intermediate update PGI could look into is a collision damage multiplier activated by the pilot.
Like activating MASC or jump jets, you can activate "melee".
Activate it and it locks out your primary weapons (not including flamers, MGs or micro lasers) and has a charge time similar to gauss. Press "primary" fire button and your mechs initiates a kick that has a range of 15m and a 60deg angle in front.
Damage = collision damage x5 x (Mech tonnage difference). Your mech takes only standard collision damage.

Long before melee of all things.
And long before that I would much rather have more important things that require engineers to be fixed/improved.

Ineptitude and saltiness.
Will never come back or be entertained as much as it's been a missing piece since the inception of this game.

...so not IK for legs and Feets come back , noch Knockdown ...its to complicated with Terrain/Hitboxes/HitsystemCollisions system/Server Calculation ...Melee with 4 Mechs ,which Mech hits which mech on Which Hitzone ? you hit the right Arm or Right Shoulder ? and the Opponent behind you hit your Back Center or the Server say the Front Center Torso ?its not for a System with a 10 Years old personal heavy modified Engine.

Punch does (Chassis base tonnage/10)*2 and Kicks do (chassis base tonnage/5)*2
To hit you simply point your crosshair at the enemy and "fire" your "weapon"
Hitreg would work like a very slow slug flying with maybe 10m/s and only 5m range.
Furthermore your "kickslug" has only 20deg updown convergance and no left right originating from the center between your feet.
Your punch slug 30deg cone from your CT.
Animation is just show.
There you go
Edit says: one could dream up sideeffcts like dmg to the punching or kicking mech or that one would have to stop to use the "weapon" but honestly...why ?

Also not fan of knockouts upon colision, that was just game and imersion breaking back in the days.
I would agree on knockouts after leg destruction, or after being hit by high alpha or something by those lines, but thats all.

Actually, melee is in Battletech (game by HBS).

Melee would be just another weapons system that you could fine tune for balance
It’s unlikely that it’ll happen at this point but it’d be a lot of fun
