Back in the days they robbed the awesome Timberwolf from it's mobility. It's seems to be (partially?) restored now. Are the days of Timby glory back now ? How you guys feel ?

It's not dominant by any means, but it's a huge improvement over pre-patch and it's definitely usable in QP.

Yeah, you're no longer actively throwing the match by playing a Timby.

It's wild that it was so bad for so long. You'd think PGI would want the most iconic mech in BT to be at least serviceable.

It feels great now. Some attention when the Cauldron does Quirks and it could be in a really good place power-wise.

They feel nimble I can actually move and twist like a predator on the field and it feels so good to twist damage for once.

the timberwolf seems a little too good now IMO.

it got huge agility buffs without any real downside.

how many other heavies would also like agility buffs without a downside? almost all of them...

plus the timberwolf is getting ecm now on top of those agility buffs? really? not that ecm is a big deal but other heavies shouldve gotten prioritized for ecm over the timberwolf.

the timberwolf seems like its getting unfair special treatment compared to other heavies now. just because of its iconic status and the fact people complained so much about it getting nerfed. but the timberwolf wasnt the only heavy that got its agility nerfed and to be fair those other heavies that got nerfed should probably get their agility back too.

I suppose mechs have never really been balanced properly in this game though. theres always some mechs that are better than others. I hate that and I wish PGI would fix it.

3 Other clan heavies already have ECM, one of which being the hellbringer that can laser vom out 62 damage. Also agility or not its still really easy to disarm a timby due to its geometry and hit boxes. And unless its pop tarting its really bad at poking hills or fighting up hill.

to the same extent as the timberwolf though?

the night gyr for example got some pretty garbage buffs compared to the timberwolf.

so yeah im just not seeing how the timberwolf didnt get favoritism...

all the more reason the timberwolf didnt need it.

the whole objective behind balancing mechs and role warfare should be that certain mechs can do things other mechs cant. im really not convinced the timberwolf needed ecm.

I feel like the timberwolf buffs crossed a balance line they shouldnt have. because theyre clearly not going to buff the other clan heavies just as much. I wouldnt be surprised if it gets nerfed again at some point in the future since PGI loves balancing in circles and forgetting why they did things in the first place.

When a mech is underpowered, any buffs it receives aren't supposed to be give-and-take because then the mech would remain underpowered. It got a straight buff because its power level was too low. Post-buff it still has the same hitbox and hardpoint height weaknesses it always had.

And that would be fine if the timberwolf was an isolated case. But other clan heavies like the night gyr were arguably worse off than the timberwolf as a result of the mobility nerfs. yet they got buffed less than the timberwolf.

other clan heavies had power levels that were equally low or lower yet they didnt get buffed the same amount as the timberwolf. so what youre saying doesnt make sense. and I dont think the timberwolfs hitbox (assuming you leave off the missile pods) and hardpoint and height weaknesses are significantly worse than the other clan 75 tonners. yet it still got buffed significantly more than they did.

my problem isnt so much that the timberwolf got buffed. Its that other clan heavies like the night gyr didnt get the same treatment and that the timberwolf was shown obvious favoritism. they even powercreeped it with an ecm variant to sell warden packs lmao. its so obvious they overbuffed it to sell more warden timberwolves because its a popular mech.

I dont think a very good job is being done to balance all mechs equally across the board. I see definite favoritism to buff certain mechs.

I can still target torsos easy on the timber, but I'm also twisting better than previously. Feels solid to me so far.

the TW had multiple nerfs
even with the mobility buff they seem outdated

every time I would complain about TW nerfs I would get shouted down
its nice after 5 years it gets a buff

my very best TW load out was 4 LPLs (I did 1400 dmg the first time I took it out)
but my jaw hit the floor last week when I saw a VGL with 4 LPLs

my 2nd best load out was 3 UAC5s (back before UAC5s got a buffed) I keep the unpainted and unused load-out around just to look at (this thing would rip mechs apart)
you know how far things have gone down because I know people are just laughing there butts off at the thought of 3 UAC5s

my last build was my streak wolf (after asking a lot of questions) I started using the streak wolf
again I can hear the laughter hell ACW can run circles around any TW with load out with streaks

TW is good but just out dated
P.S. just found out the only way to run 4 UACs on a TW is to get the pay-wall hero left arm omni pod

PGi is anti-clan so no i nevere expected it's mobility to be partially restored, or restored at all it feels like half of a dream to run now.

also i see favortism in favoring IS mechs more than clans... anyway My problem is that the missile pods and that one laser pod should be seperate components say with a fixed (or maybe adjusted with the armor quirks from the skill tree?) 30-35 armor? I would be okay with any mech that has missile pods or other pods like the timbers shoulder pods getting the same treatment like the warhammers and such. thunderbolt, summoner, hellbringers missle tube/box

"what do you think about the warden pack's Timby with ECM?"

now that I know it has a pay-wall ballistic arm I want one

I use my free MC to buy hero Mechs

edit: sorry I thought you asked about the TW hero
not the upcoming Clan Mech pack

Night Gyr can carry 10 tonns more firepower and armor than Timby. In faction warfare firepower more important than speed.

They are different mechs. Timby is locked into mid-close range brawling if you want to deal any DPS while Night Gyr is far more versatile and can do long range just as good.

the night gyr has more free tonnage because it has a much smaller engine. it already pays for that by being considerably slower than the timberwolf. the night gyr goes like 65kph while the timberwolf goes like 81kph.

that doesnt explain why the timberwolf gets such a huge agility buff for free while the night gyr hardly got anything. the timberwolf definitely got extra buffs compared to the night gyr for no other reason than people complaining about the timberwolf not living upto its iconic reputation.

and yes I agree that the timberwolf and night gyr are different mechs and have different roles. and the night gyr shouldnt necessarily get agility as good as the timberwolf, but it shouldve gotten other buffs that were equivalently good, and it didnt get them. the night gyr didnt really get any buffs that made it better in its role as a pocket assault mech. the night gyr shouldve gotten better armor quirks for example.

I just dont like the obvious pandering thats going on for the timberwolf crowd to sell warden packs. while other mechs are getting left behind.

All i can say is...

Im hoping more mechs get similar mobility buffs Timby got. For me its they way to increase TTK.

I still think that comparing to other clan 75 tonner, Night Gyr is still better (Fire power > mech total speed), higher arms and torso weapon hardpoints.

Also i wouldnt worry about ECM much. Fact is that unless you want to snipe undetected, Omnipod S in RT will still be dominant in my honest opinion. I myself will equip ECM only on my sniper builds.

Guys, keep in mind that any mech's mobility deemed over-buffed may get adjusted, just like the IS Snub-PPC and Clan Micro-Pulse Laser we have just seen.

Having said that, it seems that the Atlas and Timber Wolf, both iconic mechs, gets the lion's share of the mobility buffs thus far. We also need to see how these compare to the mobility patch for end-June for all mechs, and how these compare to each other. Time will tell.

Personally, I came to MWO with dreams of Atlas and Timber Wolf, so I'm very excited about this May'2021 mobility patch! Finally getting around to skill-leveling up my six variants of Atlas now, after this mobility patch! And Timber Wolf is next!
(It was painful leveling my Atlas Kraken to fully skilled mech last year).
