Dropping solo is unplayable. I'd rather wait 10 minutes for a game than continuously get rolled by teams. This is ridiculous.

While everyone does occasionally get a raw deal on team distribution, to say its unplayable is a bit of an overstatement.

Are you tending toward a style of mech or weapon that consistently ends up in the wrong place? Or is it the team walking into enemy fire like lemmings with no targets being called?

The issue with bringing back solo-only queues is population. While we probably have enough for that, we might not have enough population to field a group-only queue. Dropping with friends and never being able to find a match would be more of a game killer than a run of bad matches, IMO.
