How is he wrong?

As someone who exclusively plays brawler builds in all weight classes I can tell you brawling is much more difficult than even 2 years ago - let alone during release days. After I came back in 2020 from a long break I wound up buying around 20-25 new mechs because the old staples were obsolete with the weapon changes and new mechs added to the game that vastly out perform older mechs.

There is much higher risk since even Medium mechs can carry a 70+ alpha now. FLD Alphas keep hitting harder and harder while mech survivability has stayed the same.

100% agree. brawling is absolutely way more difficult now than it was 2 years ago.

theres also way more risk and way less reward exactly like youre saying.

And yeah it mostly has to do with damage going up while mech survivability stayed the same. But also the effective ranges of PPFLD weapons have gone up too.

Cauldron just wont admit they screwed up brawling (probably on purpose so they could push this crap sniping meta on everyone). They screwed up streaks too. Still waiting for them to fix that. But thats one reason why 20 ton lights are tanking more firepower than brawler assaults right now which is so wrong.

Lol half... Sure thing.

I literally just played a game on tourmaline desert where the other team had three stealth thanatos on it, two with dual gauss and one with AC10s. Along with a x4 CERPPC Warhammer, a x2 CERPPC Shadowcat, and a Marauder with PPCs. And those were just the mechs whos loadouts I saw.

So dont tell me its not happening lmao.

Again i would love to see PGIs stats for what builds are getting used the most right now. Its not brawlers.

Its PPCs, Gauss, Lasers, and Ultra/Rotary Autocannons. Thats what people are running almost all the time now.

I hope noboby actually listens to Khobai. He seems to be living in an altered reality.

So if you're new, or coming back to the game after a long hiatus, take everything Khobai says with a grain of salt.

Also, I always mute him right away in game when he's on my team.

Okay, so some advice I've yet to see anyone else mention is that mediums often do best playing like ambush predators or pack hunters. I prefer a good jump jet medium that can prowl around like some savage jungle cat, leaping upon the unsuspecting, unleashing a volley and jumping away. Bushwhackers however are more land bound and should act more like a wolf, prowling around with someone else and focus firing your targets.

They do best when not face tanking, but picking at the edges and taking out the weak and infirm. Leave the heavies and assaults to barrel through the enemy. Your job is to quietly pick off mechs at the edges of the battle blob.

You do realize the OP agrees with me on mostly everything Ive been saying right? He reached those conclusions independently on his own.

Finally a constructive post.

bushwhackers are pretty versatile. You can either play them as second rankers supporting your first rankers by firing through the gaps. Or you can play them as skirmishers/flankers and go after isolated mechs on the flanks. The role youre best at also depends if you go RAC2s or UAC10s. Its definitely harder to skirmish/flank properly with RAC2s because of the spoolup time and in that case you probably want to be supporting other mechs.

No he didn't. The OP actually came here seeking clarification of is what he seeing true.

His own post and recollection was, and by his own admission, not as accurate as he thought. Which is totally fine as often we can get caught up and lose the objectivity required to do proper analysis.

You however came here and only saw what you wanted to see "someone agrees with me, sound the pipes" as you've proven many times you are unable to be objective once you lock in on a contrarian view to majority opinion.

Brawling isn't dead - As the OP noted - he is likely rusty. As I pointed out he is now facing opponents with a much higher average skill, that takes some time to adjust to.

Same as you - you didn't play for 3 years and have come back. While playing a whack of games in a short period of time, it doesn't mean you have adapted correctly. Many players don't and that isn't a slight against them, some people just don't understand what they are doing wrong unless they seek out help - which you have not done.

At least the OP is seeking help and input. That is a very smart step in the right direction of improving gameplay and being more aware rather than complaining about everything he doesn't like.

While the OP says 234 AvgMS is bad - he's had that in prior months before so it's nothing new. If anything coming back rusty, in a more aggressive T2 situation - I'd say he's doing just fine and just needs more seat time.

I am still adjusting to playing the "new" MWO only on and off. In my experience the main advantage is still a voice lead and people moving together - which sadly rarely happens.

Taking voice lead, you get praise if it works and the team followed your target calls and bashed when half the team stayed in hiding and only some mechs followed. The tactics are still the same regardless of the power creep.

Not sure about the brawl is bad, sniping is in statement. Sure DPS output is higher, but in my opinion it depends which Mechs roll with your play style and which do not. With some Mechs I did well in brawling, in others I did not. With some Mechs I sniped good with others I did not.

It mainly depends on your team and how well they play together. Though you can damage surf on your team, but that will not necessarily translate to contributing to a win.

Thing is, this is a team game.
