The king of physics-breakers in Battletech is the Union class drop ship. This spherical ship (81.5m x 81.5m x 78m) has a mass of only 3600 metric tons. That’s a lot of empty space for 268000 cubic meters and a ship that is described as “cramped”. But I guess 12 mech bays are large…

Its arbitrary board game logic, its really just not helpful for us here.

Right. But I like using it as a yardstick for how out-of-sync the sci-tech of Battletech can be from real life. The Union is roughly the same mass as a USN Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate and has 21 times the internal volume. And if you consider that the Union's 3600 ton mass would have to include 346 tons of AIR inside...

Fast and loose doesn't begin to describe battle-techno-babble. So how tall is a mech of a certain mass? Answer... how ever tall the artist chooses to make it.

Or however tall it needs to be to fit well into the maps we have, and not be too easy (or too hard) for another player to shoot.

Those are our only priorities.

So is there not going to be a rescale at all now?

Cant be right,
the couldron said there wil be a rescale
and all their work is based on the mobility changes and rescale.

Will the changes than be reverted?

There hasn't be anything on the forums that there won't, so we might as well wait until someone from the cauldron to clarify first.

It's on the Roadmap for Q2. We shall see. Nothing confirmed as of now.

Since the mass and strength are unknown, we can only take other physical laws as a guide, e.g. gravitation, lever laws, etc., which make certain constructs and sizes simply impractical. But BT is illogical anyway ... you can't do a ton more Take ammunition with you, but tear up a 3 ton heavy tree and use it as a club, without the arm falling off (+ the forces and mass acceleration when striking) and if you hit with a fully modeled hand against massive armor ... what is going on there? more likely to break?
