that other thread was closed way too soon and before i could get in edgewise. so get your potato mashers out were gonna do it again, except hopefully without the party poopers. joystick pride!

joystick pros:

observes proportionality
feels good in your hand
you can move it left right up and down, and sometimes side to side
better than a steering wheel
it has potentiometers (all the manly sticks do, hall/flex sensors suck).
phallic appearance, tehe
better than a mouse
makes an excelent paper weight

joystick cons:

hard to find a db-15 midi port on a modern computer
not enough bits. if you can find a 16 bit stick, you are lucky. we should be on 64 bit sticks by now.
bang bang control theorists.
phallic appearance. damn it mom!
if your dead zone needs to be higher than 0.001, you have a crappy stick.
its hard to find games with devs that understand joysticks
outs you for all your freudian fixations.

mouse pros:

you can use it with your pedals and throttle or with a left hand joystick
point and click adventure game mode!
you can take the ball out and throw it at people you dont like
pleasant clicking sound
completely digital!
simplified operation
still better than a touch screen
can be used as a potato masher

mouse cons:

castrated since '99
not enough buttons, keyboards are filthy yo
not enough axes (should be enough for a viking raiding party)
its not a joystick
they are too trendy
allows game devs to ignore physics

bonus debate: trackir, useless obsolete junk or ahead of its time?

trackir pros:

it can track what your head is doing
better situational awareness (i can see you damn dirty squirrel, i cant use my lerms at this range but i can see you)
you can better admire your hulu girl or nvidia dawn
looks less stupid than a vr headset
uses up one of those unused usb ports in the back of your machine
lets the nsa watch you in infrared

trackir cons:

it can track what your head is doing
you have to wear a stupid hat
the manufacturer kind of sucks
gimbal lock
wheres my pilot's head?
shadowhawks
it makes you miss with advances zoom
you have to reset it every 12 seconds
only works in total darkness (pro tip, it will work better if you turn off your screen)
doesnt work in mw5

lets put a little bacon on this potato.

How about using this below thumb joystick + keyboard (for your left hand)--and you still get to use your mouse for your right hand!

www.razer.com/gaming-keypads/Razer-Tartarus-Pro/RZ07-03110100-R3U1
www.razer.com/shop/keyboards/gaming-keypads

Left hand as before, for navigation and pressing (lots of) buttons!
Right hand for precise mouse shooting!

personally I think its a good idea for people to be able to make pro and con lists and voice useless opinions,
it is not easy finding subjects that we can all agree is useful in attacking and degrading others whom we may
or may not disagree, what other use is there for these forums if not this.

we all owe a debt of gratitude to those who persist in writing these very useful opinion pieces.
as the post proceeds' I will no doubt make a more prolific wall of text that no one will read let alone understand

But we do it for science

thank you

i use this: https://www.amazon.c...B/dp/B00006B84Z
its bloody expensive, but mine has lasted well over a decade. i actually bought it when i was still playing a lot of ww2 combat flight sims and freespace. and unlike most controllers, its made in the usa. i also use it with ch pedals and a $12 chinese wireless mouse, that is currently malfunctioning. im using an even crappier mouse right now. my birthday is next month and i asked for a logitech g602 mouse so thats probibly going to be a huge improvement (also with the 6 side buttons i can use all the firing groups).

i mean its more constructive than trying to get changes to faction play or debating the opinions of the cauldron or discussing the use cases for lerms. there are many of those if you want to close some useless threads.
