System for Dueling or 1v1ing

Well really it’s not. I would like to see support for a dueling system. Many of us on the forums particularly have our points where we want to beat the living hell out of each other, but instead I think it would be much better to tech it to a battlemech and duke out our problems in game (IG).
If a player has a problem with another, or they just want a friendly 1v1 it would be nice that one could send a request to the other. Perhaps the one issuing the challenge picks the map and the one potential accepting picks weight class or BV max. Perhaps also there could be a wager system of C-bills, mechs, equipment or LP’s that players could place on the match.. and spectators could bet C-bills…

A 1 versus 1 option might also allow for some focused training opportunities. Many of the battles that I have fought have come down to the last mech of each team. One on one systems allow for more singular training methods. Without the noise of battle going on around you, you can focus on single aspects of combat.

that is the idea. <if not in jock football like terms>
1v1 is to settle bravado. it serves really no other purpose but to prove a persons indavidual skill agaisnt a single aponent.

During the recent Podcast (http://mwomercs.com/...ree-moves-ahead) I heard the word "Arena" used and I inferred 1v1 connection. Of course, I could be wrong. Just have to wait and see.......

The community will be huge for this game and many of us observe at least some level of BT tradition with duels and trials. For example , most units will have trials of entry for players seeking to join the unit. Clanners (soon to be) will drop in what amount to a circles-of-equals to witness trials.. Really, as long as there’s a reason and we have the ability to drop with two players (and some others to stand by as witnesses) then it will happen. But a well thought out Challenge System would be great and give legitimacy to duels and trials which are all part of BT.
Challenge System rewards backbone and skill:
A well thought out Challenge System would have a positive and stratifying affect on the community. By stratifying I mean that players with skills and backbone to issue and accept challenges will become respected and well known.. a lot more than you think. Why? People love to follow planned fights. Its drama, its your name on the line, its skill vs skill, its personal, its player vs player. The game takes on a whole other dimension.. a meta game in the community beyond just dropping for planets. Your skill and your backbone speak for you and your unit's reputation and respect. Who wouldnt want the chance to defend his unit's good name?
Uses:
There will be players who trash talk. Let them put their money where their mouth is and man up to a challenge.
There will be those who insult you or your brothers and he needs to be put down. You can challenge him. If he refuses, hes a coward and you’ve manned up. If he accepts, you beat his butt and you’ve not only put him in his place but you’ve earned the respect of your unit and anyone following the challenge. If you lose, you still manned up and at least won the respect of your brothers.
You could challenge someone who claims they have more skill or that your skill sucks.. and settle it decisively with a challenge.
And of course, trials of entry and trials of position. If your unit allows, you could challenge someone to a rank or position.
In Practice:
What typically happens is that both players end up sharing the glory. The winner wins glory and bragging rights, wins respect from everyone and defends his unit’s name. The loser also wins respect just for going through with it and they are both cool with each other. The only real defeat is to be a coward and run from the challenge... and everyone knows it.
So yes. A challenge system would add a lot to the game if its thought out well and lets the players use it as a way to prove their skill on a personal level and defend their brothers beyond just taking planets.

There are bets of 5000, 2000, and 1000 on player one, and 2000, 2000, and 1000 on player two. Player 1 wins, and receives 10% of the total betting pool of 13000, that's 1300 C-bills. The remainder (11700) gets divided up between the winning betters, the guy that bets 5000 would get 5/8's of the remainder (7313), the guy that bet 2000 gets 2/8's (2925), and the guy that bet 1000 gets 1/8th (1462). This actually would allow a gladiator-style career path for those that are good or interested; the pilot gets paid depending on his skill and following, and keen supporters can earn a little cash on the side. It's also zero-sum, so can't be abused.

1: Simulator (for training or duel purposes - think Wing Commander 3 and that hotshot pilot Flash who you can fight on a simulator)
2: Solaris has plenty of 1v1s.
Easy peasy to keep it canon, Devs! Chop-chop!

Can't wait to see you in the Coliseum.

One Atlas vs six Urbanmechs would be something to see.

Also... unless those "duels" or "challenges" or whatever are strictly monitored/supervised by PGI, results there would mean next to nothing. Way too easy to "game" that system if not run by a strictly supervised set of rules. And I somewhat doubt PGI will bother to provide the manpower for that. Because, what would be in for them? Next to nothing? Half or more of the playerbase will probably never even use that feature if it gets implemented. And it's not like forcing people to play a duel/challenge is a realistic option.

Also, chances there will be equipment/c-bill exchange possible already. if some one drops a wager on a mech match, then so be it. I dont see a need for dev's to have to stick thier nose deep into it. The thing that would make it fare, is the enemy mech is shown before hand, no switching before the match.
