It's still an annoying issue for sure. First tap jams especially are annoying. I would understand it jamming if you double tapped but single taps should never jam.

that is how they already work though...

I personally think cold maps should increase the chance to jam.
Fight me.

Single taps or holding down a button? Looks like holding down a button...
If yes then is there difference tapping firebutton when CD is done?

So because energy weapons are stronger than normal in cold maps you want to nerf UACS to make energy weapons even stronger? I mean why not just add jamming to all ballistics on cold maps and make missiles freeze to their tubes that they cannot launch.

they can only jam if you fire again during cooldown (double tap)
they will not jam when you fire once. At this point though normal autocannons are just better, so try only doing that if you really need your guns to keep firing and cannot risk a jam.

no difference if you hold or click when they are off cooldown.

Ballistics are stronger on hot maps... So yeah.

Ok just went into the test map and live map and found out some interesting things about the clan uac20. The jamming after firing was only happening when I was grouping the uac20 with er meds since they have almost the same cooldown. What I was getting was the rare jam when the cooldown bar on the uac20 was just a sliver but the er meds were ready to fire again and refired the group. In the heat of battle I guess you miss those little details. But thats not the really interesting part. I found that if you wait till the uac cooldown is about a quarter to a third of the way done you very rarely get a jam and if you wait till its about half or lower it doesn't jam at all but extremely rarely. It's only the quick double taps that get the consistent jams. Tested this out on a jenner iic fury that doesn't have a uac jam chance quirk only the jam cooldown quirk.

I rarely use UACs because I have bad luck with the RNG. I've jammed so many times on the first shot only to jam again after the 3rd or 4th shot. I will stick with the more reliable weapons.

As I found out with some testing jams mainly happen if you double tap too fast after firing the first volley. Wait a second or so before the next tap and jams should be far less frequent and if you wait till the cooldown is around half finished it rarely jams. I guess I should have figured this out years ago but I just never really used uac in any form on a regular basis except for a few meme dakka fits with multiple uac where jams are infrequent unless you really hammer the fire button.

weapons usually jam when they are overheated due to the expansion of the metal. there have been situations where soldiers have been firing their machine guns until the barrel glowed red hot and if they wanted to continue firing they would have to swap the barrel. though there were other novel solutions, like having a bunch of guys urinate on the barrel. maybe if you got some elemental bolt ons you should get 5% jam chance reduction. "alright warriors, guns are getting too hot, you know what to do."

though if we are looking at it from an engineering point of view, every gadget has an operational temperature range, being above or below that and you will have problems. given how hot battlemechs run, i dont really think the lower bound is an issue. first time you fire that thing the barrel gets hot, and will continue to stay hot throughout the battle. most jams happen at the breach and not the barrel (shells will deform to engage the rifling, which is the intended design), or in the feed system. these are inside the armor and i expect it to be pretty toasty in there, even just running the engine.

the you spam you jam mechanic that i mentioned further up the thread should do the trick to simulate the upper heat bound and effects of crossing it. its better the mechanic click in when the player does something stupid rather than when they get an unlucky dice roll.

this is one of the reasons i dont like the spammy mechanic, its very hard on the hardware. i actually have a bunch of japanese made key switches i use as replacements, they are rated to 10 million cycles. its amazing how many this game has killed.
