Hi, im getting back into the game after a year (or apparently 8 months according to my stats) of not playing and I happen to have picked up a Corsair, mainly because I have a certain love of deep Periphery and Pirate tech builds and the Frankenmech hodgebodge look of the massive beauty appeals to my inner raider.
My problem is I cannot seem to get it to work. I have a COR-6r with the weaponry, bar the LRM15, replaced with 3 Snub Nose PPC's, an LB10X and 30 MRM tubes, with a Light Engine allowing a top speed of 50kph and near maximum armour for a brawling loadout, but it does not seem to want to work. Every match I have tried to use it in (and I have tried it a lot) has resulted in me getting pasted, usually doing little damage. Sometimes its the team, or the map, or bad luck, but I feel that no matter what I try, be it balls to the wall aggression, conservative cover hugging, or anything in between, the second the enemy gets a look at it it simply explodes.
Can anyone give me any advise on how they would run it? I dont want to sell it, as I said I love the design (and honestly wish CGL would canonise it) but I cannot keep getting pasted like this.

The COR-7A with 4xAMS, 3xRAC2, 4xML is a fun build that is easier to level up, and your QP team will love you for your AMS!
3x RAC2 will even make the Atlas shrink
Oh, and a warm welcome back

The Corsair is a bit of a mess, which kinda makes sense because it's...well, a bit of a mess. If you're looking for a decent generalist you could go double blap plus wubs, like so: COR-6R. Not as super-focused as the Grim close-range Splatblaps builds, but LPLs+LBX10 is sorta the assault rifle of 'Mech builds - it's reasonably good in almost any situation if never the best for a specific situation. Critter will be slow, but slow happens when you buy a 95-ton Sphere fatbro. You'll have some small benefit of surprise, you basically never see Corsairs in QP that aren't the AMS/Rotaries 7A build.

The builds I have used on the 6R are:
3MRM40 for hilarious but hot big alpha strikes. All of the missile launchers are above cockpit line for peeking over hills. Short effective range is a hindrance.
2LB20 + 1 or 2 SNPPC for big splat brawling. Surprisingly effective even with Corsair being a big bard and easy to hit.

Thankyou all, I took your advice on board and updated to two LB10X's, two LPL's and retained my LRM15. It did a lot better in the one match its been in, save getting rained by LRM boats whilst trying to cross the river in River City (why is the cap zone so awkwardly placed?) but got deleted by Highlander 2c. Still, it did better so its getting there.

Blood, the 6R doesn't have much in the way of weapon quirks going for it, so builds are wide open. What I can say is this... the hard-points are nice and high, save for the Right Arm. Were I in your shoes, just coming back to the game, I'd outfit the 6R with 2x Gauss Rifle and 2x ER Large Laser. You should be able to slap both a Laser AMS and Targeting Computer 1 into, as well. Engine would be a 325 Light. Four bins of ammunition, with about 20 armour on the empty, low-slung Right Arm.
My reasoning is as follows... the Mech will run cold for you, so you won't need to concern yourself with the heat scale too much. Also, if you put the Center Torso Large Laser on the same weapon group as the two Gauss Rifles, you can use it as a targeting laser of sorts to ensure you land your Gauss Rifle shots. [Your reticle will turn red while the ER Large Laser is doing damage, so you can be fairly certain that when you release the mouse button, your Gauss Rifles will hit, as well.]
There is some flexibility with the build of this sort, as well. If you think you can sacrifice some speed and armour, go ahead and add another Large Laser. Not sure of your skill pool on this chassis to this point, but that might require moving down to Large Lasers from ER Large Lasers do satisfy heat concerns.
At any rate, I have had some comfortable matches in my Broadside with this loadout, so perhaps it will work for you. Best of luck.

The Corsair seems to me like one of those mechs that gets more interesting the further you move away from the 'meta' builds.
Never actually owned one unfortunately but just from playing around with builds in the mechlab I like how many ways you have to go with it.

I run 2 x RAC5 and 2 x MRM 30. It isn't meta, but its mean and fun. It's not the fastest, prettiest, tankiest or best, but, it is fun. Isn't fun what playing a game is about?
