Getting Destroyed In Non-Commander's Mech Shouldn't Lose The Battle As If It Were

In the new version you can cycle through to other mechs, however if you happen to get blown up while in a mech other than the one you assigned yourself, the commander to, it treats that as the commander being lost and you fail the mission instantly. This is not right since I'm technically not the commander if I'm in another mech.

MW5 will have a Mission fail the very moment the human pilot is out of the fight, it does not matter what Mech you are in you need to survive to the "Mission Successful" screen.
Mechswitching allows you to switch from heavy damaged Mechs to healthier Mechs and have success in a Mission that would otherwise fail.
One way to see it is that you transferred command and the acting commander needs to be alive to the very end.

Guess it depends on what you switched to, completely new tactics to figure out.
I used to put my non-commanders in safer, tougher Mechs to ensure they lived while I ran the lightest one. With switching (not tried as I have not gotten this expansion) I could see putting some low ranked pilot in a Light, switching to it because the AI would control my commander who had better stats in a heavier Mech so should do better.
Real question is if for example I have a 2 person lance, my commander has better skills and I switch to the lancemate, do my human skills help buff that lancemate better than letting the AI control them?

Mechwitching is part of the free update - Y is the button for it.
If it does not work the "fix mechswitch" video can help.
The question about the skill difference between pilots and if and how that is applied is very interesting and i have no idea either how that works.

OP is right, it shouldnt end when lancemates die while you control em, but then again if the commander dies as A.I. it should end, unless they punch out.

I think the mech switching is kinda odd myself, but I will admit I've abused it to swap from heavily damaged mechs to ones that weren't so badly messed up since AI tend to not take a lot of fire. I mean I could micro manage the crap out of them to spare me some damage to the mech I'm piloting, but honestly, the AI can't even begin to match what I do -anyway- so... (Head shots, leg shots mostly)

I do not know about mission failure as when Mason dies under AI control, I simply Load a previous save.
This is because I tried a few times giving the AI control of Mason and the result is ALWAYS Mason dies. Seems AI Mason sucks worse than any other AI pilot.
Funny part is AI Mason has female voicelines in combat despite male in tutorial and cutscenes.
Still I am never giving the AI Mason again ever.
