How about we re-introduce some of the recently redesigned maps, but at a random time. For example, you choose Caustic, and there is a certain, random percentage, that determines which version of the map is loaded. The latest one, the old one, or even the prior one.

To make things more interesting, the players don't know which version of the map they are dropping on, until they actually land on it.

Same could be applied to all the recently redesigned maps, and even some of the older ones (like Terra Therma).

Way to bring some variety to the maps?

Disregarding the flop that was Caustic, the other redesigned maps have been significantly improved. I see absolutely no good reason to bring back objectively worse versions of any map.

Nope to the old maps except old terra therma BUT it would need a little touchup with an even heavier focus on the circle.
I mean when you allready have once make it THE focus. Maybe even remove the outside, just leave the inner part with broader sidewalks and have a free for all ^_^

No that wouldn't work I know. Still maybe the map could be worked on to give a bit more focus on either the center or shorten the way around it to make it easier to flank opositions. To me that was the main problem with old Terra Therma. It took forever to flank the enemy.

Old polar is dead and buried for good.

Let it go.

What about simply putting both original and reworked maps in rotation and then let the players choose the maps they want to fight on?

This is what the map voting system is for, is not it?

No, the voting system is to ensure mining and hibernal get played nonstop all night.

I for one would enjoy seeing all the older retired maps back in circulation. An easy way to greatly increase the map variety. Even the old polar would be nice once in a blue moon.

MWO can do a "Classic Map Week", where Classic Maps would be amongst the map voting choices!

That would be a weeklong promotion for players to play. Posted Image

2-4 times each year, a weeklong feature event!

OP gave me an idea for an MWO2 feature: one of the map voting options is a random procedurally-generated map.

I would love to have a procedurally-generated map!
(Or several pre-generated versions derived from the same map).

However, I question whether or not MWO servers have the horsepower to real-time generate a procedurally-generated map, and with the proper textures auto-generated too.

Back in the day, the Sword of Fargoal had random generated maps, and users were going, WOW, and rightly so!

Not sure if MWO servers have the horsepower to do this in real time though.
