One-click is a good place to start, but what it really needs is a way to separate folks just playing around for fun or trying something new from the 'try-hard / min-max' crowd. It needs a 'beer league' that is separate from the 'try-hard' league. Having to custom build your mechs just for Solaris to be competitive just isn't worth the effort to me.

Skill based MM, or even MM pools, would require there to be enough people actually playing for MM to work. Which there won't ever be, because there's no MM...

Separation of players between "competetive league" and "beer league" would lead to a longer waiting time for a game.

Anyway, I think that it is too late for that.

I can understand that there are too many divisions, but besides that, why doesn't anyone play Solaris?
PGI killed all incentives that brought any semblance of population into the mode, that's why.

Because :effort:

Shifting divisions, mechs, sponsors, yadayadayada...why would I *want* to play Solaris when I can grab my preferred build and click "quick play"?

Well if you ignore parts of the yadayada, if you would like to challenge yourself to play against similar skilled opponents (IF there was enough players and working matchmaker... we got neither atm).

Because this game lives and breaths on Solo Quick Play?

A few people whined incessantly for Solaris. I always thought it wasn't a good use of dev time, new quick play maps, new mechs, and Faction Play content would have been a MUCH better use of time and money. Unfortunately I don't get to make decisions I just play here.

Solaris literally killed 1/3 of the MWO population in 2 months.

The MM is bad, there is no Elo adjustment for chassis, there is no limit to Elo difference for pilot match-ups, there is and still is meaningless divisions where one two meta mechs outperform all. No math no match.

Think any of these issues can be addressed in a revamped Solaris mode?

Daeron Katz mentioned in one of his vlogs some time ago that PGI is thinking about closing Solaris 7 for good.

What should have been done was weight group vs weight group. just 4 pools. subset options of: 1v1, 24 man free for all, 12 man free for fall, 3v3, clan bidding style [you and your opp see what you're dropping in chassis wise and lowering tonnage equals more rewards or something]
I think i only tried 2 or 3 times in solaris and just... didn't like it.

maybe 3 preference tabs:
"Hidden" tab: mech weight class [light, med, heavy, assault]
Tab 1: tech base: IS v IS, IS vs Clan, Clan Vs clan
Tab 2: preferred grouping [standard flood gate programming] 1v1, 2v2, 12v12, clan bid, 24 free for all etc

1. Matching by weight class DOES NOT WORK. Matching by tonnage DOES NOT WORK. In the same tonnage - nevermind bracke - you can have absolute monsters and irredeemable ********.
2. Too many ****ing buckets

is not waste time and money on additional buckets that don't really add anything special to the game, and instead focus on the the issues with the current buckets, and adding more maps and mechs to keep things fresh and exciting.
