So over the past few days a few friends and I have run into an issue where a single ECM mech can stop you from locking onto it even if you have probe AND tag. Seen it multiple times, different maps / games etc: since friday this week.

Is this a known glitch now? or just a change to ECM that is intended? wtf?

happens if theres multiple ECM mechs. You only counter one of them.

Aware, in both cases the ECM mech in question (Night Gyr and Cheetah if my memory isn't trash) was either alone or the last alive in the match. In the case of the Gyr i had a mech with both tag + probe and neither cut the ECM. Hence my confusion and this post.

Are you sure there wasn't a stealth mech behind you or that the target wasn't just out of BAP range?

Well, there was a brief notice in the last Patch Notes regarding some problem with ECM:

So it is possible that there was some glitch with ECM.

The ECM issue makes it less useful, it won't be that.


OP - You need to get some footage as what you're saying doesn't line up with how things work.

I understand that, but I have heard that the MWO code is a real mess. So perhaps there was some unexpected linkage or something ...

Anyway, the upcoming patch is going to change the ECM properties again.

Did you even run bap? Your tag doesn't work if u are under low signal state.

Update:

Yes we were both running probe, Both cases near point blank (less than 50m) BAP + Tag. Neither of our mechs were equipped with ECM while the enemies mech had ECM.

However we did some private match tests early this morning and found ECM just in disruption killed everything. BAP / TAG / etc: even other ECM.

Now NARC sidesteps this issue at least.

Literally point blank to 50-80m at most in both encounters and the mechs were the last alive on their teams.

You know what. I'll work on getting that while I've still got the active premium time up. Will post more about that asap.


[Edit]: Quick test update with arctic cheetah / wolf tests. ECM tested on hibernal 1v1 and worked as intended. I'm guessing its either a specific mech problem which I will investigate when the other guy gets back. So either a model glitch ala stormcrow turnspeed or just a once off oddity that isn't worth the attention.

[Edit 2]:
Tried with most of the mechs and couldn't replicate it. So I'm sorry for even bringing it up, once off glitch I guess. We tried rotating everything we had, maps, mechs, ecm settings with skills without etc:. I mean i guess that's good news really.

It was not a "Stealth" issue?
