Interesting. I am never dropping below 60FPS in MWO aside from that little hitch as you first load in or drop out of the leopard.

You should absolutely be getting better performance than that. Heat throttling (Remember MWO runs on one core), over clocked wrong, fancy graphics issues (Might be upscaling?) are all possible.

Is your PC running in "full power" mode, since I notice that you're on a laptop?

Edit: A quick google lead me here:
https://community.ac...s-300-fps-drops

Dunno how viable this is or how realistic but it seems like it might be something about that specific hardware on certain games.

If I am understanding his last post, he isnt running at full (high) power but Balanced mode, while also modifying that management to max out at 95%, essentially disabling turboboost. https://www.tautvida...el-turbo-boost/ That link is what I usually provide for players who had been running older laptops. Idea is to have a more consistent but low FPS instead having FPS spike high , CPU hit that Thermal threshold then system underclock to 1 digit FPS before ramping back up and repeating.

It's really more of a /rant.

EDIT:

I actually haven't tried this. But I'mma overclock just one match.

Predator has this program called "Predator Sense", that shows the temperature during operation.

During gameplay my PC hits only around 64c. If anything my pc goes way hotter with MW5, despite having faster frame rate. I know that it's not thermal throttling.

ThrottleStop also has options to disable windows and hardware throttling. Thermal is just one aspect.

The game settings are not mentioned so far but thy can affect the game massively.
So what resolution etc. do you play on?
Is you machine attached to another, bigger Monitor or TV?
What are the game settings?
What background activity is going on?
Are you aware that not plugging in a Laptop usually will make that machine run slower per default for the reason the manufacturer expects you are out of home and tries thus to preserve the charge in the batterie?

turn vsync on, so you dont cook your gpu rendering frames you will never see.

I run on actually smaller resolution, around 1366 versus the native 1920.

No, it's not attached to a Monitor, it's just the built-in 120 hz.

I'm also alt-tabbing to google chrome in between fights.

Yes, I know that laptops need to be plugged in. Otherwise I wouldn't reach high FPS on other games.

Just discovered the NVIDIA Control Panel settings for MWO program!
Questions:

1. So are we supposed turn vsync on?
Wouldn't this tax the GPU even more?

2. I've turned "OFF" the Antialiasing--Gamma Correction. Is this good for MWO?

3. I've turned "High_Performance" for the "Texture Filtering Quality". Is this good for MWO?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
fyi: my MWO game client settings already set to lowest settings for better performance already.
ie: "Windowed" mode, 1280x720 video
ie: "Low" effects for all settings, including Environment
ie: Used MrVaad user.cfg
ie: Used Meep Meep's further improvements upon above custom user.cfg

historically vsync has always been turned off in benchmarks to show what a gpu can actually do. but gamers see this and like to use it to get bigger numbers. in practice however it just makes the gpu run hotter than it has to for no actual gain. if the game says you are doing 75 fps and your monitor can only display 60, you get 60.

he did mention he has a build in 120 hz display in his laptop (i was not aware of this when i made my post), so he can actually use the frames. but i think people grossly underestimate the gpu power they need to feed high refresh and/or (especially and) high resolution displays. i wasnt able to run at 4k until i got my 2070 super (i actually run at 1080 and have enough gpu left over to hash eth in the background).

another thing you can do to fix low performance is to turn off env and particles. it makes enemy mechs easier to see as well. it probibly also wouldn't hurt to blow out your cooling fans and heat sinks with canned air.

i find andialiasing is usually fast enough to leave on, but i usually turn it off at resolutions higher than 1080 because i really cant tell the difference at higher resolutions.

Take it in steps with a profile since there isn't a need to run it 24/7, and there is your basic normal then Fast and Extreme.

MWO is mostly CPU bound...

When i watched some Streamers i noticed they have set almost all grafical options for MWO to off or low with the exception of textures that are high.

Especially Particles and Shadows affect FPS, also Damage Glow, Cockpit Glass, the Directional Arrow.

These switched off/low could increase FPS.

I dont know how WiFi may affect FPS, i guess you are on WiFi for the internet connection.

Nah. Tried overclocking my pc one match, and there's just isn't any improvement. Boggled my mind.

Most likely not much of room in an laptop. Power draw and heat are too much a concern and even in desktop oc potential is quite small. But dont limit the pc further by energie settings set energie draw too max. too allow biggest possible single core boost. Und can always switch between different power settings. Power settings (within specs) are not oc. For intel even removing power limit is within specs...

What CPU do you have, how much did you overclock it by, and how did you test whether the OC was successful?

I OC my CPU by 30% so it definitely has a FPS difference.

With that particular laptop I believe he has a CPU - i7-9750H. And if I am reading his previous posts correctly, he may have Turboboost disabled, which could mean that changing the Predator Sense settings is not able to do what it wants to, by increasing the baseline speed.

He is already gun shy due to burning out a fan and living in Mongolia, getting parts is likely not as easy as it may be for those of us in the States.

And... doh.. Predator Sense will only OC the GPU, even though CPU/GPU appears on almost every other screen, which would be the reason he didnt see any improvement, he is still locked at around 2.6ghz speed.

I game on Predator Helios 300 with GTX 1660-Ti + Intel i5 9th-gen. Playing a 9 year-old game, I get 60 FPS on training grounds, 19 to 25 FPS during matches.

For reference, I get 120 FPS on Doom Eternal, full 60 FPS on MechWarrior 5, both of which are younger.

this. check the cpu boosts during game: And remember fps drops are normal in mwo.

No. Says in my laptop it's literally i5 9th gen, not sure what 9000 that would be.

EDIT:

Just tried 100% PCI Power.

Doubled my FPS. Yeah that was it. But my CPU, not my GPU, hits 92 C. So yeah, I'm not gaming at neat FPS anytime soon.

I have a laptop too and I play at 100fps, average, in any map.

Main thing is to have a CPU with cores running at least at 3.0Ghz. GPU means quite nothing for MWO

92 is no problem for modern cpus (and u can always create a custom profile if the noise / heat is to much for u). With smaler production heat goes up. There is a reason why laptops are still not perfect for gaming. With CPU in 140+ (240 inbound) and gpus in the 380 Watt regions...
I undervolted my 3070 to 0.85 with 1800 mhz and +800 on memory to reduce the power draw from 210 in 150 Watt regions and temps from 73 in 55 Celsius regions since currently I dont need the full power anywhere in 2k. But in mwo I would always go for all cpu power power u can possibly get. Your cpu will throttle automatically if it gets to hot (100+++) region.

What tools re u using to change your settings. Your descriptions sound like a lot of oem bloatware.

Literally just the power-options, capped PCI at 94% now. I control my overclocking via Predator Sense, the built-in program within Predator Helios 300. Of course that's barely used.

My limit is only just at 80 centigrade. At that point I'd rather endure low FP than burn my laptop, they can keep their crummy FPS. I'm already ******* traumatized with one of the brushless fans giving up on me and showing 0 RPM one time..
