You can still try to limit your FPS and see what happens.

But would the last one, when I was attacked be such an instance when FPS spikes? Normally when standing still at the start of the game it's in the green with around 90 fps, highest I've seen is around 119. When the fighting starts it fluctiates between 40 and 60.

I've recently had problem with the monitor loosing signal at which point the only option is to do a hard reset, which I don't like
because then I have to run chkdsk for 3 hours. It only seems to happen if you tab in/out from the desktop or another application at an inopportune moment.

What is your system specs and OS? Are you manually running chkdsk or is the OS automatically running it each time?

Mind you, your subject title said "monitor losing signal" but it sounds more likely your system could be locking up.
  • If your monitor is connected via HDMI and not DVI, DisplayPort, etc, a quick check would be switching out the HDMI cable, in case it is not a hard lockup. (many of hte posts are based primarily off the subject line)
  • Uninstall then reinstall GPU driver. And newest driver is not always the best, and depending on OS Wndows driver updates would need to be disabled.
  • Can of compressed air and clear out the heatsinks, both CPU and GPU (not mech Posted Image ) This should be done regularly, every 2 to 6 months, dependent on location.
  • Remove and reseat the GPU itself.
  • Limiting the FPS limits the load on the GPU
  • System Power Options set to High Performance
  • If it is the PSU dying, it will show its ugly head eventually, potentially taking out other computer components. MWO would have been the warning flag.
