Intel dropping DirectX 12 support for old CPU with Integrated Graphics (4th Gen CPU circa 2013).
These PC's would have come with Win8, to give it some perspective.

Affected systems would still support DirectX 11.
ie: Newer video games that only support DirectX 12 would not run on such a PC.

Yet another nudge to upgrade one's computer?

This comes hot on the heels of Win11 upgrade not supporting CPU's generally 2017 and earlier.

i got several old machines that run integrated. mostly because i put their gpus into the mining box. they are usually doing media center or shop duty. if given a choice id have bought cpus without an igpu, but that was generally not an option in most cases (if the cpu with the performance numbers i liked had an igpu, i got an igpu).

I ran mwo on a lot less than minimal specs but since the switch to 64-bit only you now need a microwave instead of a toaster to run mwo. And if i'm going to game I want a dedicated video card. Integrated graphics are for making power point slide shows.

I'm not all too concerned. MWO is CPU heavy.

i think the slowest i ran this game on was a core 2 quad with 8gb ram and a 200 series geforce. its shocking to know people run this game on a lot less than that. ive built 5 other rigs since then (im still running the 4th because i still need a gpu).

The support for directx12 means they won't supply with the drivers but the drivers are already installed in a computer you buy from a reseller. Directx drivers haven't changed much if at all since directx 10. What Intel is doing is scare tactics which AMD is also doing by making their graphics cards support being removed. Intel doing this because they're trying to enter the GPU race, knowing that they reached a technological limitation their only option is to expand. Besides this topic should be moved to off topic.

Since when was directx an Intel technology?

DirectX is owned by Microsoft and Intel is talking trash

DX9 or DX11 from what I recall, unless the DX9 support has been removed since. I assume pretty much everyone has it on 11.

You can find the DX options for MWO under video settings. I think it was 9, 11 or auto. (What happend to 10?)

Beside that anyone else lately haveing wet dreams about MWO supporting Vulcan and multicore CPUs? I think I shouldn't watch the StarCitizen tech slides, drink and play MWO at the same time before bed time ^_^

As for the main topic. One should make a survey for MWO to see what CPU/GPUs are most commen in use and what is the most common resolution. That is if the program dosn't send that data to PGI anyway.
Could be interesting to see if the DX thing would be a problem for MWO players at all.

"potential security vulnerability” that could allow escalated privileges"

https://hitechglitz....der-processors/

For computers that run both 4th generation Intel Core processors and have integrated graphics, users may experience a headache the next time they upgrade their graphics driver.

The tech giant has announced that several processor families are losing official support for the DirectX 12 API system due to a potential security vulnerability that could allow elevated privileges.
